Automated tax system is not calculating any tax for customer addresses in the same state as the shop. All settings seem correct. Could it be because my wordpress.com account isn’t the same as the site owners?

Automatic Tax Rate – Incorrect?

Hi, Setting up a store for a client and having an issue with Automated Tax Rates, seems to be charging tax when the item is tax-exempt.

Here are some details,
The store is based in PA and the checkout address is also PA, the item in the cart is a Lab Coat. I have added a tax class according to Taxjar categories. The tax class used is “46181532a0000”, but I set the Tax Status to “Taxable”. (I am not sure what effect the tax status has on the Automated tax from Taxjar, I expect that it will still request that tax but use the stated category and return the correct tax rate)

However, on the cart, it seems to be returning tax for this item.

Is this correct? I am under the belief that the tax category “46181532a0000” is exempt.

Automated Tax calculates Zero

Hi Dears,

I installed the (WooCommerce Shipping & Tax) plugin, and enabled the Automated Tax. I also set my location in the Settings tab, and enabled Taxes.

However, every time a product added to cart, it shows always (0.00 USD) in Taxes.

When I enabled logging, the following report shows in the Taxes log:

Taxes Are Wrong

Don’t waste your time. This plugin does not calculate taxes (at least in Colorado) properly.

Will look for another ecommerce platform other than Woo Commerce

Automated Taxes Reporting Incorrect – most all orders shown as one rate

When I pull a tax report (in either standard Woocommerce reports or the new Analytics) the rate showing for the majority of our orders is 10%, based off a city/zip code not near us: 98052. Even more odd, according to TaxJar the rate for this city/zip code is 8.6% (not 10%). This occurred for almost 100% of our in-store sales, as well as most of our online orders as well.

Even more confusing (but a relief), the sales tax was correctly calculated in the order/at the time of sale – and is showing correctly in the individual orders (or we would have caught this much sooner.) It seems to be only in the reporting that there is an issue, which we are just now noticing due to tax time.

Our physical location is zip code 98382 (tax rate 8.5%) in the city of Sequim. We have “Enable Automated Taxes” selected, and Calculate Tax based on “Customer Shipping Address”, as is our state law.

Is this a bug or known issue? Is there a setting I’ve incorrectly set somewhere I can check? Is there a way to clear the data and repopulate the plugin again, to see if that fixes it? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, since it’s tax time and if this doesn’t work we have to go through each individual order for the year and separate them into zip code by hand. Thanks!

New Tax Laws Automated Calculations

Client has been informed by his accountant that he now needs to tax sales to every state in the US. Will I have to enter that all manually, or will the jetpack/woocommerce services be updated to reflect that, or am I missing something else entirely.

The dropdown selection for “automated taxes” does not exist.

This is your instruction on Woocommerce.com: “With taxes enabled, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Tax, select “enable automated taxes” and Save Changes.”

It was there. It worked. It calculated all CA taxes. Now, it is not even there. The plugin is the latest. Woocommerce is the latest. Jetpack is connected as well as Woocommerce.com. I need this to be fixed ASAP per my customer’s demand.

Enabling automated taxes leaves boxes greyed out

I’m trying to set up Woocommerce. I have Jetpack installed and everything looks looks good until I go to the tax tab within Settings. I want to enable automated taxes, but when I do that, a number of options become greyed out. One of those is the option to enter prices inclusive of tax (something I want to do). Related are the boxes enabling me to display prices with tax included – just not possible to select this.

The second option greyed out is to select how to calculate tax. It’s defaulted to by shipping address, and I can’t change this to by billing address.

If anyone can tell me what I’m doing wrong I’d be really grateful. Thanks

Automated Tax Calculations Incorrect

The automated taxes for the WooCommerce services are incorrect.

The website is a clean install.

The tax rate for the test zip code (80303) should be 8.845%. But the tax logs shows a combined tax total of just 4.00%.

Checking TaxJar’s sales tax calculator shows the correct tax rate for the zip code.
I’ve tested with other CO zip codes and the problem is consistent.
The system also does not seem to be charging out of state taxes too.

Looking at the tax logs the API does not seem to be returning city and district rates.
Note: Shipping is disabled so no taxes are being collected.

I know that CO’s new laws require charging city and district taxes.
