live traffic; pressing block IP only blocks 5 minutes

In live traffic, when pressing block IP, it only blocks them for 5 minutes regardless the amount specified in the settings..

I mean, how many are watching the live feed and want to ban for 5 minutes, usually I look there for strange behavior, and then it’s often been more than 5 minutes ago..

Please advise if CIDR notation can be used to block ranges of IP addresses. The current help dialog indicates that ranges can be specified using the following notations:

Example 1: 195.47.89.*
Example 2: 195.47.*.*
Example 3: 195.*.*.*

Since not all blocked IPs fit Class A, B, or C IP ranges, but rather CIDR subnets of the aforementioned, this functionality would be most kindly appreciated.

Please advise.

Why i want to do that? Many commenting guests have dynamic IPs and i cant ban them after approving their first comments

Hello,
We have been receiving calls that some of our customers are being banned from accessing our website however, none of the WordFence options on our site are set to ban. Just to limit rates. The settings aren’t real aggressive either. Could this be an issue with the WordFence FireWall? I’m not sure how long this problem has been around as the business is seasonal and just starting to reopen for the summer.

I’ve temporarily disabled the plugin on our site, but I’m worried that the handful of other sites that I manage with this plugin may be affected as well. (Although there isn’t any proof of that at the moment)

Postie Ignores entire message if banning all attachments (.)

I am using Postie to post outage notifications for my company onto our main website. Everyone in our company has an image in their signature in emails so every time a post is sent Postie uploads the image from the signature even if it is after the :end tag. This ends up loading our site’s upload storage with multiple copies of the same image. I have attempted to banning uploading all attachments with *.* but that makes postie ignore the entire message now even if :start and :end are used or not. How can I stop Postie from uploading images and still continue to grab the text?

Integration with Nginx: Banning NOT functional

We have used your plugin on apache sites where the apache process can dynamically read changes in the .htaccess file. This works well. But on Nginx, your plugin writes to a nginx.conf file in the virtual servers public_html folder. This requires that you do an include from the sites-available/[virtual-server].conf file. (not a big deal, but undocumented step)

The problem/issue comes from the fact that Nginx does not parse these files dynamically. Meaning that after a change, you have to specifically reload Nginx to see the changes. For example, when banning a user for a brute force attack, your plugin writes a deny line in the /virtual-server/public_html/nginx.conf file. But this change is not picked up until you reload Nginx. So the attack continues unabated.

Are there any plans to address this?

I just got banned from Google and Bing!

So, I just found out I just got banned from Google and Bing! Maybe to day, or some days ago. I don’t know.

First of all, I’m pissed! What about being polite, maybe sending the webmaster (I got the webmaster tools for both) a message saying “Something is wrong with your site. We are getting spammed from you. If you don’t fix this, we will remove you from Google/Bing.” Nope, just remove, without any information, or any warning.

Actually, I don’t know why this is. Bing just removed everyting, site index and webmaster account. Google removed the index, but the Webmaster tools shows everything is okay! Thank you for the information, tell me again, what did you want me to fix?! You see why I’m pissed?

Secondly, I need to fix this. I just found out Jetpack for WordPress does some SEO work, sending information to search engines about new posts. I deactivated that feature on Jetpack. How does this SEO information work? May plugins interfere doing this, or how do they work? Do they send one unique notification each?

I found two broken links on my web page, form the rss feed. But I don’t use the RSS feed, and cannot find it. And I don’t bother. My page is not a news paper, or a blog with many updates. I don’t need it. But may those two unwanted links from nowhere be the reason for the banning?

Third. One last question. If you’ve read this far, is there anything I’ve missed?

Now I’m going to bed, hoping for a better tomorrow.

Banning Spammers

Hi All,

I am fed up of getting spam comments on my site https://siebelunleashed.com.

I have installed akismet and it is working well but I would like to block them completely so I started adding entries into .htaccess file to ban the spam IP address.

I would like to know that adding large number of IP’s in htacess file is going to affect the performance of site. I have not seen any degradation of performance yet but is there any limit of adding entries in htaccess file.

Any information is appreciated.
