I made a big mistake and paid a local company too much money to screw my website up. I wanted to streamline it, reduce the amount of garbage in the code, improve the layout, and generally speed it up.The result is a site I am not happy with and a website developer that will not communicate with me. I specifically told them I did not want elementor or one of the other bloated programs and I wanted a nice simple drag and drop editor to which I could add sections. What they showed me in development is not what I got.

So basically, I’ve decided I need to figure this out myself and it’s been a long time since I have done any of this. I figure the best way to to start is to design the site from scratch then pull the articles, pictures, database etc.. over to my offline site. Delete the existing site and upload my new one. I think this is how I need to do it in order to minimize my offline time.

This will take me a while, as I have limited time, but I don’t have too many other options at the moment.
.
what I need to know is:
1. Am I even on the right track?
2. Is an offline build still possible these days (I haven’t done much actual computer work since the 90’s)
3. What is the best sandbox to build a wordpress based site in these days?

Hello! I knew nothing about building a website or coding a couple of months ago. After trying 2 WordPress themes purchased on Etsy that didn’t work, I did more research to figure out an easy to work with WP Theme with lots of power, speed and which works great with Elementor. Astra came up! Soon I upgraded to Astra Pro and Elementor Pro. I now have a beautiful website! And it is so easy to customize! I recommend Astra and Astra Pro to anyone new to building a website.

Hi,
I’m trying to use WordPress as a site builder for a seemingly straight forward website that I have a host for.
I’ve done a lot of reading and watching, but I’m struggling to find information relevant to my needs…

I need a theme that lets me disable objects such as the header and footer, and allow me to add my own objects in as a title, or images. Another important condition is being able to add custom fonts, ideally using a plugin.

I am confused to why I’m burning so much time and effort on finding a workable theme for this, feels like I keep hitting dead ends. Are there any free themes or resources that will allow me to build a very basic site using my own creative content and layout?

REST API error 404

Hi all;

I’ve seen around a few posts that say there’s an issue with .htaccess that causes the REST API to return error 404, but I’ve reset my permalinks several times to no avail.

My current set-up is a low-cost debian-based server located in our office (port forward of 80 and 443 only, FTP, SSH and others are LAN only). I’ve set up the server and WordPress but I’m unable to edit any of the pages because the REST API is returning E404. I’m not sure to repair this. The usual “reset your .htaccess” hasn’t worked and I couldn’t find many other solutions, and those I did were based on Windows so not applicable.

Any help would be appreciated.

Creating a Website From a Blog Using Yahoo Small Business

I downloaded WordPress through Yahoo Small Business. However, when going to the website before it showed the old site and I wanted it to show it through WordPress. I used their live support chat to change that and they turned it into a blog, they also told me that I can change the blog and make it look like a website. How can I go about and do this? Is it possible to change the blog into a website. I have to build a website from scratch from the blog.
