I have read and re-read the documentation on WP and Bluehost (my hosting) about how to change my primary domain on my website and the information is really vague to me.

So far I have:

1. Purchased the new domain (www.raincoastlotus.com)
2. Had Bluehost change which domain is my primary (now raincoastlotus.com) and parked (www.ojasathletica.com)

I know how to update the wordpress url & home, but doing that just makes it so I cannot login into wordpress anymore. Soo, I am definitely having to do some work in my database but without really detailed instructions I am not confident in working with my database.

Something I tried already and maybe just missed a step along the way:
1. I went to mysql created a new database
2. went to myphp
3. exported current database
4. selected new database
5. imported the previously exported database
6. went to my cPanel file manager
7. opened folder public_html
8. opened file wp-config.php and updated the database name and password.

It did not work and I panicked. Website was broken. SO I undid everything put everything the way it was and now I am here.

I think I am missing a step somewhere. But I don’t know what exactly it is or how to complete the step. Do I need to add this new database to my cpanel?

Now I’m surprised the Site Statistics dropped from a daily average of 2000 visits to Only 250.

All old domain redirects are working. 301 redirect and CNAME, etc..

What could be happening?
Something to do new and different domain alias domain?
Maybe no redirects are contabilizen?

I have made about 90 pages(200mb) worth of website on a domain name with hostgator & the site is password protected (not live yet)

Now, I suddenly found that a better domain name is available and I bought that, Now I want to change the current domain name to the new one. I need some help here.

I have been referred to the codex “https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL” but I have seen people recommending some easier & better ways.

Please give me a checklist, an easier way or refer me to someone who can help??

Can I use the directions in the below link if I want to change the primary domain of my multisite? Or are there more changes that are not listed in the instructions?

I have opened the .sql database (a downloaded .gz file) in Step #4 in order to change to change all instances to the new domain, but when I open the database in Notepad all I see is gibberish.

Is there an app that I can use to edit the sql database for this purpose?

We don’t need to move files or change servers, just change the primary domain name.

The new domain is pointed to my host’s DNS servers and parked in my host’s control panel.

What would be the best way of going about this.

I thought for a minute, that I would have been able to go into the site options under super-admin but it doesn’t give me the option to change the domain name in ‘site 1’.
