Disabling this plugin fixed the problem. I also disabled other plugins and they didn’t fix the problem.

]]>I’ve installed this plugin and modified it so that it accepts the German “Umlaute” (??ü):
preg_replace (‘|[^a-z\p{Arabic}\p{Cyrillic}0-9 _.\-@??ü??ü?]|iu’, ”, $username);
Unfortunately, it does not seem to work at all. Whenever I try to register on the following domain:
https://ferienspass.dreigestalten.ch/kursverwaltung/?action=register
I still get an error message stating that my username contains characters that are not allowed.
It would be very much appreciated if you could look into this, as the acceptance of “Umlaute” in usernames is critical to the functionality of my site.
Thank you very much in advance!
]]>I need to Create a new Author for my Divi Blog. When I go to create new user, I enter username and email but the new user does not appear on Users list nor is the confirmation email received. In turn, I recreate same user and error says “User already exists” but doesn’t appear on list nor is the username in the PHPAdmin database wp users.
Who knows how to solve this annoying issue?
WordPress version and Theme up to date.
WP version: 4.5
Divi 2.6
*I really need to create an Author for my WordPress site. Looking forward to solving this serious issue. Thank you.
]]>I am trying to add new users to my site and when I click on ‘new user’ and try to click ‘show password’ the button clicks but nothing happens. This means I am unable to generate a password for new users and therefore cannot add new users to the site.
I have tried searching the forums but haven’t come across anything that can help with this.
Please advise
Thanks
]]>When adding a new user as Administrator in the backend, I get the WP error “Cheating are we?”. Then it downgrades the Administrator to a Subscriber level. Yet, the new user is created.
Deactivating the Membership plugin, Administrators can create new users without problems.
Any idea what this could be related to?
Thanks so much!

Is this something you’ve considered doing?

]]>To make matters, worse, WordPress’s administrator interface for entering new users blanks the password field each time it reloads the page with the error message. That requires re-entering the password, twice, every time there is a username error.
WordPress’s unhelpful error message:
ERROR: This username is invalid. Please enter a valid username.
How can a user or administrator know what the problem is? We are supposed to guess?
The error message needs to provide enough information that the user can figure out what the problem is. In this case, it needs to list what characters are valid, and any other required parameters such as minimum and maximum length.
Better yet, provide this information on all registration screens. That includes both the user registration window, and the the Administrator panel for adding new users. That will help users and administrators pick valid usernames and avoid these problems.
I’m surprised these problems remain in an otherwise excellent interface. Especially since they affect — and discourage — NEW WordPress users. Please fix!
