Other issue being it is a .ca website, which cannot be transferred to wordpress servers, only mapped, and I don’t know if you can change the domain name to it afterwards.
I was hoping to avoid buying a new domain name by using a subdomain, but I don’t think I can create a WordPress site on the subdomain without disabling the GoDaddy builder for the site at large.
Please help. I’m guessing I’ll have to purchase a new domain and build the site there, but want to be sure the .ca site and the current domain will be possible to change to before I do.
My scenario is I am redesigning an existing site. I have created a new, temporary domain name through GoDaddy, which I’ll call “newsite”. WordPress is installed in the main directory, public_html. The Home and Site URLs have been pointing to “newsite”. The hosting package is only for a single domain name. My client is happy with the new site and it is time to go live.
The existing site, which I’ll call “existsite”, is supported and hosted by a different company but I do have access to the domain name, which is registered with Network Solutions. My client wants to continue using the “existsite” domain name.
After reading the how-tos, I changed the WordPress Home and Site URLs to “existsite” and through Network Solutions I updated the DNS servers to the ones identified in GoDaddy for “newsite”. After the change propagated, all I got was ‘server not found’ messages for “existsite”. I’ve switched the servers back to the existing site until I get this figured out.
What am I missing? Also, once I get this working so that “existsite” properly points to the new site, I am hoping I can just remove the “newsite” domain as if it never existed. Will that be possible?
Thank you!
]]>So I installed a wordpress installation locally and transferred in onto my server at robtlarkin.com/wordpress It was working and everything was fine. I was leaving it here while i was finishing some stuff on it. Then i had intended to transfer it to the domain www.boundariesarebeautiful.com, which my client had as a wordpress.com site.
But now i can’t login into the admin panel at all and the site appears to not have the theme applied to it anymore?? Not sure what happened
Anyone have any suggestions as to what might have happened or how i should go about fxing it. Also the original www.boundariesarebeautiful.com is not working now either.
]]>The screenshot that is provided on the link does not help. I am guessing that with a free account you are not allowed to change the DNS servers? I don’t understand why because my client has a free account, but they also have their own domain: three60fitness.ca and it renews every year.
Pleas help me with this,
Evan
