How to fix “String Locator is limited to search mode only.”

I have the String Locator plugin installed, v2.6.3, WP 6.3 WooCommerce 6.0.4. The problem is that file editing is not enabled. Site is on SiteGround.

I get the following message:

String Locator is limited to search mode only.
Because this site is configured to not allow direct file editing, the String Locator plugin has limited functionality and may noy allow you to directly edit files with your string in them.
To edit files, you need to have the edit_themes capability.

Anyone have any ideas where to look or how to fix and enable file editing?

I’m new to wordpress and I’d like to have a go at editing the source code for a plugin -the events calendar. I’d like to try and include a dropdown menu for categories and have found some code snippets I’d like to try featured in this thread:

My questions are, where can I find the file to try these out in?
Does wordpress offer a way to back these files up or do I have to do this myself manually?
Do I have to download wordpress myself or can I acheive this code ‘tweaking’ in the website dashboard in the browser?

"Edit Files" not showing in SEO plugin

When I installed this plugin, the Edit Files option does not appear in the menu below SEO on the dashboard. I cannot find or edit the robots.txt or .htaccess as a result.

Any thoughts on why this doesn’t appear, or what other settings could be conflicting?

We’re using a Genensis theme version 2.1.2.

I am missing the “edit files” section of the plugin SEO by Yoast.

I have the current version and tried to install/re-install without any luck.

Any suggestions?

I use this plugin and I love it. I have one site that I cannot get the “edit files” settings to come up. I have a robots.txt and .htaccess (obviously) on this site and for whatever reason the option doesn’t show up. Any idea why? Is it a function of the .htaccess file?

On my new blog (In test mode), I know how to log into the blog, and log into the admin/dashboard, but I can figure out how to log into the actual files on the site, to see them, and possibly to edit them. How do I do that?

I have gone in and changed the permissions on my wordpress files, but wordpress will not acknowledge that the permissions have been changed. These are on blogs that have been constantly active for years and I have never had this problem with them before.

I am new to WPMU. I would like to edit the HTML of the sidebar on the home page. The Docs say to download the file into a text editor, make the edit there, then upload again. My problem is, how do I find the file name and/or the file path, so I can upload it to its correct place? Or does the file name not matter, that I just simply upload and the newly-edited file will “find” its own way to the proper place? Can I just “view” on my browser the source code of the page I want to edit, copy the HTML into the text editor… if so how do I know the “name” of this edited file so I can upload it properly?
