]]>I did delete all (5) tables from the database and deleted the plugin from the WP backend. And installed the Yoast plugin fresh. So far the installation works – but yoast does not create the 6 new tables in the database.
Any tip on that?
Many thanks in advance,
Michael
]]>I am assisting someone with a WordPress issue and we have pretty much decided that we’d like to a fresh WordPress install but retain posts and pages….
… so what I would really like to do is restore only certain content from the MySQL database… is this a reasonable or a bad idea?
For example the existing database includes junk from:
– Old Multi-site Data (we have disabled Multi-site)
– Old Plug-ins we will no longer use.
Is there a recognised set of tables that are necessary to bring back the ‘bare minimium’ of data into a new WordPress install please?
Elsewhere on the web I have found this list, do you think if I recovered just these tables into a fresh install of WordPress, we would have a working site?
I would recover everything and drop the tables that were not in this list:
wp_commentmeta
wp_comments
wp_links
wp_options
wp_postmeta
wp_posts
wp_terms
wp_termmeta
wp_term_relationships
wp_terms_taxonomy
wp_usermeta
wp_users
Thanks in advance for you help!
]]>I now want to redo it from scratch, with a completely fresh start, and keep it really lean and fast.
I backed up the posts using WP’s export tool, deleted my WP install, and deleted the database. I then set it all up from scratch, and thought this would accomplish my goal.
I had an issue where the images in the posts weren’t in the media folder but were being linked from the original folder, and I fixed that last night by manually downloading all the images, importing them to my media folder, and then deleting the old links and inserting the new images into my posts.
However, it appears that I still have a bunch of leftovers from my old installs – when I used All-in-One WP Migration to take a back up, it was 5gb! I went into my files through my host and deleted everything dated prior to my recent install, but it’s still sitting at 3gb which doesn’t make any sense to me.
I only have about 17 posts and all the images are compressed and quite small. Aside from those posts, it’s just a clean install of Astra with an imported demo site, with only a couple of minor changes so far.
How can I achieve my goal of having a completely fresh start? I assume my problem is that I deleted the WP install and database, but didn’t then delete the whole folder for that site with my host, meaning when I reinstalled it it had all the old junk there again…
I’m not adverse to starting over again, but I want to make sure I do it right this time.
I’d also love to be able to save the images from my posts with their titles and tags, as it took me hours last night to import and rename them all. Exporting and importing the posts doesn’t seem to work properly.
I hope that all made sense. I’m definitely still a beginner at all this! Thanks in advance for any assistance.
]]>I’ve just installed a fresh 5.3.2 WP install with no plugins, and no matter which of the preloaded official WP theme I choose, the parent page comes up blank, however the children pages do show the parent>child peramlink:
https://localhost/sandbox/new-main/section-1/
Isn’t this suppsed to be a ready-to-use feature? First I thought Incubator Theme was mixing up the feature, but now not even a new, fresh WP install I haven’t been able to make it work.
I’m running a localhost install under Windows 10, Apache 2.4, PHP 7.4.
What am I missing?
]]>Can’t select database
We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the lynda_under17_040518 database. Are you sure it exists?
Does the user root have permission to use the lynda_under17_040518 database?
On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_lynda_under17_040518. Could that be the problem?
If you don’t know how to set up a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.
Here is what i know
This Stack Overflow post says to put define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );
in wp-config.php which I’ve done. It also says:
“the debug.log file will be in wp-content.”
Well, I am not seeing any debug log even though I’ve restarted all services in WAMP and refreshed the browser.
Any ideas on what is going and how to get my local website working again?
