I have quite a few websites to move from one host to another so I have tested a few with Duplicator Plugin.
It appears to have worked perfect however, when I come to update WP or a plugin, its asking for FTP username and password. This wouldn’t be a problem as I have them, but it appears that the ftp username is greyed out and pre filled in from my previous hosting company.
Please could someone tell me how I can change permissions using FileZilla or how I go about being able to edit the FTP username to put in the details from my new hosting company.
This is the only stumbling block I’ve come across with moving the websites over.
I am not a techy person or no much about code, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
]]>I hace recently installed locally WordPress 4.0.1 successfully. However I cannot update WordPress without adding Hostname, FTP username and FTP password. In my company IT support does not provide help regarding WordPress and now I do not know how to get these details?
Where should I find these details? I am running windows 8, and it is a virtual server which I get access through remote desktop from my laptop.
I’ll appreciate your help with this
Sebastian
]]>In my web site, I have static pages as HTTP, and the bbPress area protected by SSL and using URLs that are HTTPS.
When I have a RELATIVE link from a content (http) page to a the Forum (https), the result is a 404 page (which is fine – I know if I use an aboslute URL the link works) but what I would like to understand is – in the scenario of a relative link, the 404 page returned has a URL like this below = where /~myFTPusername is my FTP username:
https://www.mysitename.com/~myFTPusername/forum/topic/topictitle/
This happens if I am logged into my WordPress Admin area or not. I was not logged into my hosting or FTP at the time of testing this. I’ve checked with my hosting company and they said, “Must be a WordPress thing.”
I would like to understand why and how in this case, the system is able to pick up my FTP username.
Thanks.
]]>I have just bought some WP video tutorials that I have the rights to sell, and I’ve been going through them to see if they are good quality.
They are good, but each time the guy installs a plugin, he gets a page within WP dashboard, where he has to input his Hostname, FTP Username and Password.
I have been using WP for years and have never had to do this step for ANYTHING in the WP admin area.
The only thing that I know of that I do differently to him, is I have always had all my sites on one Reseller WHM area, rather than basic shared hosting.
Would that be the reason I don’t need to re-login to the server, from within WordPress?
thanks a lot
]]>My host says it’s a WordPress issue. Where do I go to type in the new FTP information?
Thanks so much!
]]>I put in the the ip address for hostname then for the FTP Username and password I put the username and password for my cpanel and click proceed and then I get a failed message.
I tried downloading the updated wordpress through my public_html but that didn’t work either.
Please anyone help I would be very grateful
