Homepage directory fail

Hey guys,

Having some troubles here.

I’ve made a wrong move by changing my homepage URL earlier today, and ended up having 404 on all of my site pages.

After a few hours and a huge headache, I managed to get it back online, by hardcoding the values in the site (as said here https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL ==> editing wp-config.php and typing

define('WP_HOME','https://thegrop.com/2015');
define('WP_SITEURL','https://thegrop.com/2015');

Editing the functions.php didn’t do the trick so I had to hard code it (and I can’t change them in the settings tab now).

So, now, my website is back on and running, YET I used to have it at the root directory ==> https://thegrop.com ; not https://thegrop.com/2015

If I change one of the value in wp-config (WP_HOME/WP_SITEURL), I get back to my 404 and nothing works.

I tihnk I’ve to change the .htaccess files, but can’t manage to do it without having internal errors.

Please, I really need my website to be back up now !

Could anyone help?

My hierarchy is currently

Thegrop.com (ROOT FOLDER, where there is an .htaccess) where I want my website to be
/2015 (WORDPRESS FOLDER, where there is another .htaccess) where it currently is.

I have just installed Postman and added the settings that the email server guys have provided. The wizard has gone through but the test emails are failing, saying:

ATLAS [Home directory didnt exist: 543150,

backup file is on my home directory already

Can anyone tell me how to restore from a backup file (.tar.gz) that is sitting on my home directory in cpanel.
I find a lot of info on how to restore via an upload from my computer but not if the file is already on the cpanel.

WordPress not in root directory

I have installed wordpress in a directory: /Organisation with the .htaccess and index.php at site root stellamaris.com.au.

I am not a wordpress developer so forgive me for bothering you when i am very appreciative at this plugin being made available.

I am creating a PTA site for our annual fair. When someone goes to sign up:
https://stellafair.com.au/organisation-portal/?sheet_id=5

It returns to home as it cant find the page:

https://stellafair.com.au/?sheet_id=5&task_id=8&date=0000-00-00&signup_id=0

instead of

https://stellafair.com.au/Organisation/?sheet_id=5&task_id=8&date=0000-00-00&signup_id=0

I wonder if you could direct me on where I find the code to correct this and whether you can envisage any other problems I have created by not using the home directory.

I overwrote my home directory and lost my site

Hello,
So today I installed WP to a second domain in my hosting account/file manager. I didn’t realize I pointed it to the home directory that was already another website.

I have since uninstalled WP to the second site (tristate.builders), and trying to get the original website back (bluestonepizzeria.com). I have a back up from this morning, it’s stored in the root directory.

I’m trying to figure out the EXACT path to put the original site back up.

Help!!

I first installed my site to the

www.customruns.com/wp directory and I should not have and just installed it to root but now I want it in the root. Things I have done so far…

1) Moved all /wp files and folders to public_html root folder
2) Tried to change my directory from customruns.com/wp to customruns.com in Softaculous settings in CPanel…didnt work
3) exported the database and change all instances of www.cu…./wp to
www.customruns.com and imported the edited Sql database

It showed broken links so I imported the original one back…

My hosting company tried to help and edited the index.html file (which I still do not see) to get the www.customruns.com page working and it works but the links/menus still show all in the /wp directory…I’m lost

My domain is www.frankharris99362.com hosted at globalNPN. It used to be when I accessed it the index would pop up and I would click on myblog which took me to wordpress and I could login to dashboard. Well I created a new page called HOME… I added that to the general settings for URL in both places. It changed my home directory and took down my site. HOW do I login to word or where do I find the file in cpanel of my domain using file manager, to take the word “home” off the end of the URL settings? unknown .php files in directory above root folder

I recently noticed two .php files in the directory above my root folder. I don’t recognize them or know what they do. I contacted my webhost to see if they put them there and after much back and forth determined that they hadn’t. I was able to figure out from my security logs that 2 ip addresses (both supposedly owned by amazonaws.com) seem involved. I found their requests in my 404 error logs, each made what looks like one request for the file from my site url (www.mysite.com/cg-123.php) and 1 request for (www.mysite.com/cg-123..php?print_path=1). One made these attempts on one day and that was the first and last I saw from that IP. The other made identical attempts for the other file the next day, and that was the last I saw from that IP. (I looked up both IPs and no red flags, but I realize they could be fakes.) Looking at the file info on the files in my FTP agent, it shows the files were modified at the same time these requests were made (even though they appear to have resulted in 404 errors.) I have no idea how this could have happened. Again, this is happening in the directory ABOVE my root folder, which I thought was more secure. I have a LOT of security in place on my site and keep up on site security maintenance.

The fact that this is occurring in the directory above my root folder blows my mind.

1. Is this an attack at the server level? Are there any other ways this could occur?
2. Does anyone recognize this type of behavior as a known hack? I am clueless.
3. Is there any chance these are legit? Any known plugins or FTP services or the like to store .php files above the root?
4. How do I figure out how this access to my home directory (above my root) occurred and close it up? (I changed passwords, but it seems like there has got to be a bigger problem here.)
5. How do I restore or clean up the home directory? (all of my backups are only of the root, no idea about the directory above.)
6. Are there any sites that can evaluate .php files to determine what the code does? I don’t know code, but I would like to know what has been affected.

Where are the posts in my backup?

A while ago I backed up the whole home directory of my site. Now I am looking through my backup file and cannot find any of the posts. I understand that the posts are held in a database (SQL, I think). However I do not know the location of the database and there are too many to search through.
Please help!

P.S. I am using cPanel
