We recently migrated a partially built site to our servers, and started performing basic maintenance. As part of that, we installed Jetpack, and received the following:
Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 406]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: https://jetpack.me/support/
We’ve never experienced this before, and none of the other sites on our server have this issue.
Searched, didn’t find anything useful, any recommendations?
Thanks.

– I installed an SLL on hallhighalumni.org.
– I created & confirmed a WordPress.com account for my client (hallhighalumni).
– I disconnected Jetpack from hallhighalumni.org so that I could reconnect through my client’s account.
– Now, when I try to connect, with either account, I get the following error:

– I’ve been on the phone with my webhost (bluehost) for ages. They have confirmed that they don’t block the xmlrpc.php file as was suggested in a related forum topic. They also were incredibly unfamiliar with Jetpack, so it took them about an hour and a half to not be able to help.

I use Hostgator and have enabled remote SQL in cpanel for my ip address.
I have used this plugin on other servers with no problem. Any ideas?

]]>This error (HTTP 406 Not Acceptable) means that Internet Explorer was able to receive information from the website you visited, but the information was not in a format that Internet Explorer can display.
What does that mean, and what can I do to resolve this problem. While I wait for a response I’ll see if I can figure it out for myself. If I have any success I will mark this post as “resolved”. Thanks to for your help.
