Kubrik and 3.0 question

I have a WordPress client who’s currently on Version 2.9.

He is using a theme that is about three years old, very highly customized and altered. It’s based on Kubrik. The person who developed it is no longer available, and I find some of the modifications to be almost impenetrable–cannot get my head wrapped around several of them.

It is way, way past time to upgrade this blog to 3.0. Security problems abound, and they’re a mess to keep up with. Key plug-ins are also becoming outdated.

My question: How compatible is the old Kubrik with the brand-new WordPress? If I break this theme, I own both halves, and I’d rather minimize the risk.

Any observations, suggestions, words of wisdom, or expressions of “you poor thing” will be enormously appreciated!

Default Theme 1.6 Kubrik – Navigation Broken in 2.8?

Maybe I misunderstand the Default 1.6 theme that ships with WP 2.8.1, but I thought that there is supposed to be some prev/next navigation at the end of the page… ( it sure looks that way in the code)

If this isn’t the case, stop now and tell me to suck lemons.

If there is supposed to be pagination navigation, how do I get it back? I don’t use the default theme, but was checking against it as a control to see if previous_posts_link and next_posts_link was working to get the next page of posts…

I’m thinking that they aren’t working… or am I missing some basic config that I’ve overlooked for years?

Is there some config on my machine that I’ve dorked up without realizing it?

We have another site on 2.8.0 that is in the same boat… it is on the same machine so… did i dork it up, or is there a problem with the prev/next navigation?

Browser compatibility with IE?

Please excuse the fact that I’m completely ignorant of CSS for the most part.

I modified the default theme and was finally happy with the sidebar when I realized that it wasn’t compatible with IE (I haven’t checked other browsers yet). I remember having a similar problem with a theme I edited.. well over a year ago at this point, probably…

Is there any way to make it so it looks like this while still having it compatible in IE?

Hiding the body background behind header with transparency

I am trying to have a header (and footer) with a cutout and I need the background of the cutout to be the page background instead of the body background. You can see what I’m talking about here. The cutouts in the header and footer are supposed to have the stripes behind them, but instead they have the body background. Anyone know how I can do this?

I can’t make the header image with the background included because when the page is resized everything looks off.

I’m working off of Kubrik. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Default theme jumps to the right when adding a big image to a post

hey everyone,
im new to this so im using the default theme but playing around with it. after a while i realized that when i went from the actual blog to the “about” page or whatever the whole page would jump to the right, about 5-10 px or something. took me two hours to figure out it was because of an image i inserted into a post. i used a smaller image and everything was fine, used a bigger one again and same problem. thats the blog: chrisbmurray.com/blog i installed a fresh default theme and it still had the problem so im sure its not from my tweaking around with it..thanks for the help

Limited page list in Kubrik sidebar

I am using a modified version of the default (Kubrik) theme on my web site at www.fmueller.com. The line ‘Pages’ ); ?>’ in sidebar.php lists ALL of my pages in the sidebar. I’d like to list only some of these pages to turn it into a more useful navbar, and I know that a command exists to do that, because I had it set up like that before I stupidly overwrote my whole theme folder without keeping a backup If anybody could refresh my memory on how to make it list only a few selected pages in the sidebar, I would be most grateful!

editing header with image

I want to edit the default wordpress theme (kubrick right?) and remove the text etc in the header and replace it with a image header?

I have done this, but I don’t really understand how to.

Want Blog Title and Blog Description in Kubrik to be different colors

Hi all,

I’m trying to get the Blog Title and Blog Description in the header part of my blog to be different colors. My template is the default Kubrik template. I found the section “#headerimg.description” in the style.css stylesheet, and successfully made some other changes (bolded and italicized the text, increased the size slightly) but when I insert “color: white;” as the last line before the closing curly brace, nothing happens. I’ve tried different variations on that (color: #ffffff, etc) but I can’t get it to be any color other than whatever my blog’s title is.

Anyone have any pointers about where else I would look to accomplish this? I want the Title in black, but the description in white, and thought I knew how to make it work.

Header Color Kubrik Editor Gone, Theme editor messed up

i just signed into my admin panel today, and went to change something in the sidebar. while in the theme editor i clicked on sidebar and for some reason it took me back to the home page of the site. now, whenever i click on any of the links on the theme editor to try and edit one i get taken to the front page, however, if i go to files -> manage, the links in there still work. Also at the same time this happened, the header color editor for the kubrik theme dissapeared.

you’ll see that the sidebar on the right shows up after all the posts have been listed. I’m not up on CSS, but I figure the problem is in there. Can I make the sidebar show up at the top right like it does in the other theme?
