]]>This is an improvement from before when they didn’t work at all. I got some help at Apple’s discussion boards (See posts here). To summarize, per the advice from a board member, I updated MySQL to the latest version and had to enter some commands through the terminal. I can see all of my databases using Sequel Pro as well as add users. However, I can’t flush privileges and only see this error “MySQL said: Table ‘mysql.servers’ doesn’t exist”
I’ve got some very urgent projects I need to work on and this has held me up for a week trying to get it straightened out. Any advice would be helpful.
]]>I have a root user for ‘127.0.0.1’, ‘localhost’, and ‘rhino.local’ (my Leopard OS domain). After connecting to mysql (mysql -u root), I set the password for all of these accounts to be ‘abc’ using:
%> SET PASSWORD ‘root’@’127.0.0.1’ = NEW PASSWORD(‘abc’);
%> SET PASSWORD ‘root’@’localhost’ = NEW PASSWORD(‘abc’);
%> SET PASSWORD ‘root’@’rhino.local’ = NEW PASSWORD(‘abc’);
From this machine using the command line I’m now able to connect with my new password like so:
mysql -u root -p
I provide my credentials using the “suggested method” as illustrated in this image and have tried substituting ‘rhino.local’ with ‘127.0.0.1’ and ‘localhost’ without success as well. I obviously want to try it using my Domain as it makes your site more “public” (I realize this is only visible on my LAN but it’s good practice for my purposes).
I’m using Apache with the rewrite module enabled (libexec/apache2/mod_rewrite.so) found in my httpd.conf file, MySQL 5.0 (package format) installed to /usr/local/mysql and PHP 5.2.6.
]]>Today, she is trying to post and when she saves a draft, the content of the entry disappears. The subject line is fine, but no content. I log into her admin area with my login (which is administrator, as is hers), and I cannot see her content. I then do a test draft and save it, but she can’t see the content of it when she goes to edit it. When I try to edit her tests (where she sees no content), I can’t see the content either.
We are both on macs, both using Firefox (most recent version), but she is using Leopard (OS 10.5.2) on an intel mac book. I am using Tiger on a G5 iMac Power PC.
So I mosey over to my mac book pro, which has Leopard (10.5.2) and try to do a draft and I get the same results she does. Can’t see the content of any draft that was created on a Leopard machine. We both also tested Safari on Leopard, with the same results.
I was just now clicking around a little more and found that on the entries I did on the imac, I can see code in the HTML tab, but it’s not in the Visual Editor when I view it in Leopard.
Thinking about the visual editor got me remembering that I DID install TinyMCE Advanced about a month ago, and then upgraded it when I upgraded to WP 2.5. I just deactivated it, cleared my cache and was able to post normally using Leopard.
We will keep TinyMCE Advanced deactivated for now, needless to say.
I know this was long and confusing, but my client is freaking out and I’m hoping we’re not alone in this problem. I am also going to post to the TinyMCE Advance support page. It’s a GREAT plugin and she needs to be able to use it again someday!
]]>I am using a fresh install of OS X Leopard, I have PHP 5.2.4 running, MySQL 5.0.51a MySQL Community Server running on top of OS X’s pre-installed Apache. I can parse PHP, and I can connect to my local MySQL server via command line. I installed phpMyAdmin, and that’s running smoothly locally as well (phpMyAdmin is able to connect read/write to/from MySQL).
I keep getting the “Error establishing a database connection” page when I hit my local wp site. I have a fresh install of WordPress, with a double-triple-checked wp-config.php file. Configured as follows:
define('DB_NAME', 'dbname'); // The name of the database
define('DB_USER', 'root@localhost'); // Your MySQL username
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'xxx'); // ...and password
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this valu
e
I tried changing the ‘DB_HOST’ designation to my machine’s IP, this did not work as well.
I have also re-assigned the mysql.default_socket php.ini:
mysql.default_socket = /tmp/mysql.sock
Additionally, the my.cnf file:
[mysqld]
socket=/var/mysql/mysql.soc
I have tried restarting all services, re-installing all services (besides apache), and, well, I’m starting to lose hope! I have done wp installs a gazillion times, but never ever had an issue like this!!!! Someone please help! Any smart suggestions are greatly appreciated!
]]>https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/142393?replies=10
However, my issue is similar, but a bit more complicated.
I have WP 2.3.3 installed using MAMP on my Macbook Pro. I use it as a local install of WP for testing/theme development.
I’m running Mac OS 10.5.1. Other people were having issues with leopard, but I seem to have had success. Using Safari, I can access my blog at
https://localhost:80/wordpress
And it works great. The complication comes in when I try to test my blog in VMWare Fusion – which I use to check sites in Internet Explorer. I’ve altered Fusion’s host file so that I can access my MAMP files at
mysites.dev/*some directory*
But WordPress just won’t work! I keep getting the error “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”.
NOTHING I do works – I just simply can’t get wordpress to show up in Fusion! I’ve tried restarting, reinstalling WP and MAMP, and no dice.
Other MAMP sites (like a joomla install, or static HTML pages) work fine – just not WordPress! If you extend the URL to something like
mysites.dev/wordpress/readme.html
You can access the readme just fine.
I’m stumped. Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
]]>The title and body text boxes show up in the right column under the widgets for Post Slug, Categories, etc. I don’t know if it functions, but I don’t want to try writing in a box that’s about 1.5 inches wide. I can stretch the box, but it stays in the right column, instead of in the middle. The header and footer of the page look the way they should. I reviewed my plugins, thinking maybe one of those was monkeying with the layout, but I can’t find any likely suspects.
I have Googled the tar out of this issue, and searched the WordPress forums. The closest I get to any hope is people who say it’s a Safari problem with the beta (v. 3.0.4). BTW, I’m using Leopard (Mac OS 10.5).
Oddly enough, WordPress has a great plugin for posting from my iPhone, and the layout is perfect, but writing paragraphs of stuff with my thumbs is not my preferred method of data entry.
Thank You for any help you might be able to offer.
