Hi, I noticed that when a very large reference is added, the following reference doesn’t work. Around 1500 characters with spaces. As a workaround, I put a link in the footnote that goes to a separate text area outside the footnote system. Wondering if this is a bug or is there a setting I need to adjust. Thank you

Adjacent Footnotes Not Working Sometimes

We’re having a strange issue where seemingly at random, certain footnotes are not working.

We’re using (()) short codes to bracket the reference in text.

From some testing, it seems that certain references are messing up the following reference. In the linked page, deleting the “Judson Jeffries” reference then screws up the following reference, which is currently working and is footnote 3. If I delete what is currently footnote 2, the currently screwed up footnote starts working.

This problem seems to happen to many footnotes across the linked article. I’ll note that when the reference is not being turned into a footnote, it is preceded by a reference/footnote that is rather long and contains hyperlinks and lots of punctuations.

In case it is helpful here is the HTML code for the first reference that screws up the next reference:

Broken Menus

I am not sure when this might have first appeared but I discovered that with the last two updates the menus do not appear in the mobile version unless footnotes is deactivated. I’m using the Boldgrid Grid one theme. Footnotes works find on the iPad or desktop.

I installed a different plugin as a workaround but it’s definitely not as nice as this one. Thank you for all your work.

Footnotes numbered incorrectly

Expected Result

Footnotes will be numbered based on their appearance in the post.

Actual Result

The footnotes are instead numbered 1, 5, 2, 3, 4. The correct footnote text is displayed on number hover, but the footnotes in the bottom are doubly misordered as 1, 3, 4, 5, 2.

Steps to Replicate

Bizarrely, the only time I’ve encountered this issue was when I was making a minimal working example for a previous bug report. The numbering works fine on all the real posts I’ve ever used footnotes on, but on this page (and, as far as I can tell, only on this page) they render incorrectly.

Testing Performed

this happens on both Posts and Pages
this happens when I make a new Post using the same code
this is independent of whether the footnotes include any links
if the text of all the footnotes is the same and the ‘merge identical footnotes’ option is enabled, then the notes correctly merge but are still displayed in the text in the 1, 5, 2, 3, 4 order.

Website problems with mobile view

This was the first time I used the plug-in with this post published today. Looks great on desktop, but on mobile the feature image does not display and the hamburger menu does not work (for any page/post on the site).

I tried [ref] (( and user defined to no avail.

Disabling the plugin fixed everything (but of course my 22 references in the article no longer display properly). Site was recently upgraded to WordPress 5.5.1 (but I had not tried the plugin prior to that).

The Jquery version of this plugin has some problem with WordPress 5.5.

The plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/enable-jquery-migrate-helper/ shows these errors :

I had used the Footnotes plugin on my page: https://www.jobkhoje.com/hp-board-10th-result/. But, Tooltip Hover Not Showing properly. Errors are coming.

“Uncaught TypeError: jQuery(…).tooltip is not a function
at (index):300″

Can you open this page and search this line ” Roll number from the official web portal at https://www.hpbose.org/((Footnotes)).” where I have used Footnote.

Remove the blank at the end of the article where references are written

I have a problem … When I write the sources at the end of the article, a blank appears where to write references .. But at the bottom everything is fine, the references appear without problems … I want to delete this space

Infinite scroll does not work anymore in wp 5.5

Hi,

Since WP 5.5 infinite scroll does not work anymore. If I deactivate
footnotes it works again.

PHP version 7.4.

Hi,

New wordpress version, and new way to write functions!

With wordpress 5.5, I get following error message:

Deprecated: Function create_function() is deprecated in /web/wp-content/plugins/footnotes/class/init.php on line 61

Hope you could fix it.
