I am a non-linear (read: artist) type who has successfully created 3 or 4 WordPress websites. I have taken on a bit of a challenge for a non-profit society made up of volunteers mostly in their 70s and 80s. The person who was taking care of their website is done and doesn’t know how to help me port the domain from Bluehost to WordPress. I looked into simply learning bluehost, but it seems they don’t support .ca domains. (? Maybe I have the wrong info) I hope to make the move in January 2023 after I take as much information as needed from there- such a busy website now!- but have no idea how to do this. If you are kind enough to answer, please talk in the simplest terms possible because although I can figure out a lot, I gotta be able to understand it all or be able to pay someone to do it! (Like, am I using the words “port” and “domain” correctly?) Thanks…Lara
]]>I’ve been moving my site from my test domain to the real one with your plugin, and everything has been working smoothly up until now.
I installed Jetpack and tried to move my site with your plugin, but after successfully switching domains (to the test site, thank god) all of my product images are giving me 404’s (I’m using WooCommerce, in case that matters, but I don’t think it has anything to do with it).
I’ve narrowed it down to the Photon Image Accelerator module in Jetpack as adding it’s own url before my image url’s, as it’s supposed to to host my images on WordPress’s cloud, but for some reason my original site has the image sources set to www.mysite.com/images/imagename.jpg, and the site after it’s moved to the test site is showing as i0.wp.com/www.mysite.com/images/imagename.jpg.
So it seems that Photon is not actually hosting my images on the real site, but kicks in after being Duplicated to the test site. Furthermore, when it is working, and the images are being hosted with Photon, they don’t seem to exist and are resulting in 404’s.
I ended up fixing it by search-and-replacing all “i0.wp.com/” urls with just nothing, and now I’m hosting my images on my own site, as usual, and I’ve turned off Photon for the time being.
I would like to use Photon, though, but it seems there’s a problem between your plugin and Jetpack’s module. I’ve sent an email to Jetpack support as well, but any insight you could give me as to why this is happening would be great.
Again, sorry for the giant mass of text! Thank you in advance!

]]>But one thing that’s concerning me is that I might lose all of my blog subscribers if I change the theme.
Will that happen? Or will all the subscribers still remain, even if I change the theme and the majority of the content?
]]>I moved my blog to a new domain, everything in the plugin appears to be working (shows new domain) and I can get the .html of the sitemap to load, but the xml page gives me an error:
Error loading stylesheet: An unknown error has occurred (805303f4)https://olddomain.com/wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/sitemap.xsl
I uninstalled the plugin and reinstalled it and that message is still there. Any ideas?

]]>I have been assigned to build an improved website for a company who already uses “www.permanentdomain.com” as their domain name. They have the domain registered at GoDaddy, and they use a really awful hosting service that is NOT WordPress.
They asked me to build them a new site using WordPress, but they want me to build a pilot/test site on another domain they own at GoDaddy, “www.alternatedomain.com”. The plan is for me to build the site on www.alternatedomain.com, and when it’s ready and I get their approval, transfer the new site to www.permanentdomain.com.
I’ve read through https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress and to be honest, it seems like it may be a really daunting task to switch the domain to the www.permanentdomain.com once the test site is ready to be launched.
I’m wondering if there is an easier way to do this, or if anyone can at least kind of dumb-down the language and give me a rundown of the process of switching domains. I would just redirect the domain, but then all of the urls, etc. would be for www.alternatedomain.com and not www.permanentdomain.com, so that would be an issue (unless I’m misunderstanding the process of redirecting domains?).
I greatly appreciate any help you all may have for me, and I thank you in advance!!!

]]>I have developed out a wordpress site on my server and need to move it to another domain on my clients server. He already has wordpress installed and is running a current theme. I have imported all the pages into the development site and have modified them according to the new theme I designed.
I need to know the best way to switch everything over with the least amount of down time.
I was thinking I would need to delete his current pages and posts and then activate the new theme and then reimport all the pages/links etc.
Then I would do a search and replace for the changed URL.
Is this the best way to do this?
And what is the plugin you recommend for backing up wordpress and moving it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
]]>I found a tutorial but there was no date & it involved editing my database files. I don’t want to screw those up. Also, my host can move my database for me and put it inside my new domain, but I’m afraid of getting dinged by Google for duplicate content.
Any suggestions?
]]>I work for a student newspaper. For the last few weeks we have been developing a new website using WordPress, and we’ve had it on its own server and with a different domain than our primary website.
Now it is time to make this new website go live. I’ve looked over the WP Codex instructions, and it appears all I have to do is upload the new website to the primary server, change the folder to make it reflect the new domain, and change the stuff in wp-config.php to reflect the new domain. Is that it? Or is there more to it?
]]>When looking at the MySQL data for the old domain I see a value like this for an image in the _wp_attachment_metadata value:
/nfs/c03/h01/mnt/48478/domains/miamiangelproperties.com/html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/09/thefontana.jpg
And a value like this for the new domain image in the _wp_attachment_metadata value:
2008/09/thefontana.jpg
All the files are where they should be in the uploads folder on the new domain.
1. Is this why the images are not showing up for posts where I’d previously had the shortcode?
2. How do I correct it?
I greatly appreciate any help.
