]]>I have been researching for a while but not quite figured out the best way to do this in my situation. I thought it shouldn’t be too difficult!
I have a clients wordpess website in which they want a total revamp including new content and theme. While I am setting up the new site they need to be able to access it and with no downtime on their current site.
I thought maybe the best way to do this would be to set up a subdomain with new database and work from there until finalised. But then I am a little confused on how to switch it over to be live. The current site is in the root domain. Will I need to delete the current site files once the new site is ready and just follow steps that are in “setting up site from new directory”?
Thanks for your help!
But my question is, do I delete the core files that are in the sub directory or will this melt down the site? I don’t know if something in WP is still drawing information from those files or not.
I’m worried that if I leave these duplicate files in the the working directory that Google will see it as duplicate content.
Thanks in advance for your help.
]]>My website database was damaged by a freelancer I hired and we were not able to fix it.
So I did the followings to get my site back online as quick as possible :
1. In my hosting account (BlueHost), I unassigned my domain name (an addon domain) to its current directory. At this point the site is not even on the internet at all.
2. I assigned my domain to a new directory in my hosting account. Both directories (the old and the new) are at the same level, directly in the root of my hosting account.
3. I installed a new wordpress site on the domain. Meaning I’m now using a new database.
4. I uploaded my site backups that I had created with the plugin “UpdraftPlus Backup and Restoration” BEFORE any damaged were done to the site and restored it. Note: the backup included everything (database, images, plugins, themes, etc).
It works almost perfectly.
The only issues I have is that some plugins seem to still be getting stuff from the old directory and this is causing issues with images. For example I’m unable to upload new pictures on my site now.
Why is this happening? Any idea what additionnal steps I need to take?
Thanks in advance for your help!
]]>But haven’t been able to get my site to load after going through the steps.
The site: https://nbeginnings.org now has wordpress in root directory. It had been in a separate wordpress directory.
I checked the database for home and site directory. They both show https://nbeginnings.org
I disabled plugin and theme folder, hoping it would load the default WP theme.
wp-config.php shows correct information for the database as well.
I do have access to the directory via FTP and the database as well.
help!
]]>I have two websites on my hosting account. site one is in the public_html/rootName/ and works fine. site two was in public_html.
Files were a mess so I created a new directory for site 2
First error was the index.php so I followed directions to copy the index.php and htaccess to my new root folder. I corrected the address to( dirname( __FILE__ ) . ‘/folderName/wp-blog-header.php’ ) for site 2
Now there is an index.php in the public_html directory, one in site one and one in site two. There is an htaccess in site one and site two.
After all that my new error when signing into site two is: Warning: require_once(/home/leslielaas/public_html/wp-includes/load.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/leslielaas/public_html/wp-load.php on line 42 this plus the fatal error…

]]>The 2 functions I would imagine would be:
move_attachment_file($attachment_id, $old_directory, $new_directory);
copy_attachment_file($attachment_id, $old_directory, $new_directory);
Are there any such functions? If not could someone point me in the right direction and let me know which functions I would have to use to accomplish that. Then I can try and code it myself, but I am a bit lost to start with. Thanks, Sascha
]]>The original directory was located at
www.yoursoulsguide.com/wp/wp-admin
I put it into the root directory so now I login through www.yoursoulsguide.com/wp-admin
I don’t want to delete the /wp directory yet. As far as I knew all posts and such were kept on the database. I’m not sure why they are not in the new blog I just created.
Can someone assist me, please?
Thank you!
]]>I backed up my files – so that is good.
1. I created new directory where I wanted the files to move to.
2. I moved the files
3. I installed WordPress to that directory.
4. I uninstalled the old WordPress (opps!)
4. I log on to the new wordpress site and do not see my content or redesign of the theme. I do however see that my theme, Diarise, is installed.
Question – Why is my content not active and modified design also missing? Please help!
