Is 5.5 simply a cosmetic release?

I completely understand having required updates for security releases. However, from what I can gather from the announcement about 5.5 “Ekstine”, the “latest and greatest version” from Matt Mullenweg’s post is that it is not a security release.

While updating WP is relatively easy, it is still somewhat time-consuming and feels decidedly like a “make-work” project if it isn’t absolutely necessary.

At this point, am I understanding correctly that 5.4.2 is still a completely stable release? If so, in the announcement of the release of 5.5, could you state the fact that the shiny new version is optional at this point?

The plugin is an excellent software! By the way, we think it is very non-professional to abandon a function in the latest release! Neither without widely informing all the users.
It caused us many problems because we discovered it not working on a live website!

To be more precise, I am talking about the rwmb_meta() function which was removedd in 4.10. If you continue like this with many updates and no backward compatibility the Plugin will lose usefulness..

Uploading Music Files

I have just downloaded the plugin, but I’ve fallen at the first hurdle. I assumed to upload files, I would simply go to my media library and upload either an mp3 or zip file.

But when I go to create a new release it tell me to upload a file to the releases folder. How and where do I do that?

Apologies I’m fairly new to this, and technical knowledge of wordpress is limited!

Never seen this many problems after an WP upgrade

This is not a question. I just want to say that I have been using WP for almost three years and gone through many new releases and I have never encountered as many issues as I’m experiencing with 3.5. While I think the Media Uploader is probably an improvement, it seems to have come at much too high a cost. Scanning through all the other posts in this forum makes me realize I am far from alone.

Upgrading

I have quite a few web sites I support that use WordPress. When there is an update to WordPress, I deactivate all the plugings on each site and the install on each site and then reactviate the plugins on each site. This takes a while to do. So I don’t want to do it if I don’t really need to.

My question is if I skip upgrading to a release will I be able to just upgrade directly to a future release or do I have to upgrade them all in sequence?
