A WordPress news plugin opens sites in a new window

In the early stage of setting up a site and testing what plugins are great, and so forth. However, I did not choose the template and not sure if this is a plugin or template issue.

On there is a Latest News section on the top right. When the links are clicked in the window, the web page opens in a new window. I’ve tried to find out why this happens. If I go to Customize, I can see the latest news short code.

But have no idea how to find where I can edit to stop the Latest News links opening in a new window.

Any help appreciated lots.

Stripe not loading

While using the shortcode in a post using Avada theme, (no elementor involved) everything was ok until clicking over the credit card icons to proceed to Stripe and make the payment. At that point the “iframe” loaded the stripe page but only the general layout… all the objects greyed out and pulsating slowly. I think that must have to do with how the css, jquery (or whatever) is loaded that somehow was not alright. In any case, the only way I could make it work was forcing to open the stripe page in a new tab:

in : seatreg/php/services/SeatregPaymentService.php

The only inconvenient is I’ll have to redo it anytime the plugin updates.

It would be a simple improvement to add that option to the settings (“open payment gateway” in new window or something). Or at least to have a filter where you could implement it with a code snippet without touching the code directly.

That’s it, more a feature request than an issue and just in case someone else is in the same situation.

Better control of symbol for links in new tab or window

The Hueman theme displays a symbol/icon after a text link that will open in a new tab or window. This is good. The problem is, even if a link is manually configured to open in a new tab/window, if the link includes my domain, the symbol doesn’t appear. I don’t tend to use new tabs/windows for internal links, but the theme omits the symbol when I link to another site accessed via a subdomain, e.g. photos.albj.net – and even more to point, the Bluesky social media platform can be configured such that my domain is my username, so my bsky link of https://bsky.app/profile/albj.net also does not display the new tab/window symbol. (I currently have temp worked around this by putting my bsky link behind a bitly shortlink. My skill level is probably only just around amateur with doing custom tweaking. Wondered if maybe there’s some custom code I can add into the Additional CSS section or any other simple fix to be able to override and show the symbol on links that have ‘albj.net’ in them.

In the General settings there is an option for “Open links in a new window”

I wanted to ask will this also apply that to adsense ad clicks? Because for some reason adsense doesnt generally like their ads to be opened in new windows.

Also in this context is opening the ad target in a new tab seen as the same as opening in a new window?

Opening links in new tab/window refrains interruption of the content being read, viewed, and/or listened to.

And it is recommended to open new tabs/windows more often than not, e.g. losing reading position, interrupting AI readers, etc. Yes, it is safe to open new tab/window via _blank, additionally, it isn’t black hat, and does not carry pessimistic tendencies, as well as reference for page rank, not talking about uninterrupted SEO of direct traffic. Aforementioned is important because only 4.1 billion people use the internet, about 56.7 of global population, therefore knowing a reference is important.

How can this be remedied, by removing rel=”noreferrer noopener”?

rel=”noreferrer noopener” is added automatically, it is re-added (after being removed) upon saving/publishing.

Is there a code and/or plugin that works and does this?

There are references of code for functions.php and plugins that haven’t been updated in years. Code does not work, and we’re reluctant to use the outdated plugins.

Looking forward to having this resolved.

Open PrintFriendly in new window/tab?

I found a 2012 article from PrintFriendly saying you just need to ‘untick the JavaScript box’ to make the print/pdf button open in a new window, but that must be outdated because that JavaScript box no longer exists, so I’m trying to figure out how to open it in a new tab instead of forcing visitors to leave the site when they click the button? (particularly as there is no back-button to prompt them back to the site)

Not possible to open up PDF in a new tab. This creates a bad user experience because they navigate away from your website. Using the back arrow on your browser does not return you to the same page.

This is the only issue but a colossal problem, as most will be lost when browsing your site.

You can create a direct link to a PDF book and open the URL in a new window or tab but then you can’t use the thumb images.

Send to new tab on mobile not working

When the form is completed, it should go to the pdf. On desktop this works only on mobile it gives an inline message and nothing more. It stays on the same page. (I also specified that it should open on a new tab)
