When I try to upload an AI or EPS file I get a message “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons”
But when I try to upload JPG, PDF or PSD I get a message “Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2015/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
Thus I cannot upload any images to my WP site. What is the solution please anyone?
By the way, as per a previous solution posted on the forum, I went to the hidden folder wp-admin/options.php and found the “upload_path” setting. The field is blank. The field for the “upload_url_path” setting is also blank. What should I put in these fields (if anything)?
I hope the solution is easy as I know little or nothing about coding. Thanks for any help I get as I’m dead in the water with this one.
]]>Since webnesday last week I am finding it impossible to upload images whereas I was able to do so just fine at the beginning of the week.
When I do try, thy take ages (many minutes) and then show an error (red box on the right of the gallery saying “An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.”)
If I save the page and go back into the gallery the image has uploaded twice.
This is across multiple sites, not just one and across many different WP versions.
I then tried the same images on a wordpress site hosted with bluehost.com and they uploaded perfectly. So it is not my connection to the internet, but a problem on my host company’s side i would have to assume…
My host company says their systems are all working fine, but i am not sure if this is due to a fix they added as part of the heartbleed security fix.
I would really appreciate any help you can provide.
Thank you.

]]>If I try and click the image I get
“Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Laptop-and-money-XSmall.jpg on this server”
previously uploaded images have not been affected.
Thanks for your help!

]]>The problem is when uploading images – just before the crunch an error message comes up “failed to write to disc”. I contacted my host who couldn’t help. Is there any solution to this? I understand there are work arounds but I want to understand the problem and its fix.
Any help? (I updated the wordpress build to 3.3.2 and all the plugins – before I did this the error message was “http error”)
]]>Yesterday, I received a response to my 9 month old post from a frustrated user who has the same white screen problem. I responded with a bandaid fix that I found to work sometimes. And, by the way, the problem is random. Sometimes I can upload images; sometimes I can’t. Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes until I can upload images after the program returns the white screen; sometimes I have to wait hours. Sometimes my husband can upload images from his computer; sometimes he can’t. In other words, there is no rhyme or reason for the white screen. It seems to be totally random – and it is completely frustrating. I work on deadline. The white screen is counterproductive to my deadline and causes me to lose valuable time, to say nothing of income. So, I was elated to hear from another frustrated user who had the same problem.
For others with the same problem who are searching this forum, I hit upon a solution that sometimes works. I have learned to Save my work before I attempt to upload. Even if I delete a comma, I must save the post before attempting to upload an image or else the white screen appears. Save, save, save – and then try to upload. Maybe it’ll work for you. It’s time-consuming – and it’s a royal pain, but it works about 70% of the time. I was writing about my hit or miss solution to the other poster when the thread was summarily, and, in my opinion, rudely closed.
Here’s the response I received from a Forum Moderator. And I’ve copied and pasted it verbatim: “OK folks – please post your own topics. This topic is 9 months old and references a much older version of WordPress than that currently available.”
First of all, I update WP religiously. The problem has never been resolved with the updates. Secondly, it IS my own topic! Third, someone else has the same problem TODAY, I hit upon a sort of solution and was describing to the poster who, again, responded to MY topic.
The rudeness of the moderator, her dismissal of my and the recent poster’s problems, the closing of the thread when the poster and I were engaged in working out the problem together, speaks volumes about not only the ineptitude of the forum and its moderators, but also of the rudeness of the moderators.
I hope the poster who was writing to me will find this thread that I’ve started anew. Alas, the problem persists. I welcome a response from anyone who has a real solution.
Thank you.
]]>I tried uploading the images manually through my host (Cirtex) and that works just fine, but that is a big hassle.
Any suggestions? The wp-content permissions are 755.
Thanks!

I am having problems uploading images. When I attempt to upload images directly to my website, I am receiving error messages such as “error saving media attachment” or “The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/vhosts/reviewcaptain.com/httpdocs/wp-content/uploads.” I am pretty sure the images I am attempting to upload aren’t too large to be uploaded (only 150 by 200). How can I fix this?
Thank you!
Mike
]]>My blog is a couple of months old, I have never had problems uploading images in the past. Today I am getting this error:
Unable to create directory /wp-content/uploads/2009/01. Is its parent directory
I am on a Mac, WP 2.7 (problem started this morning with WP 2.6 so I upgraded thinking it would solve the problem but it didn’t), FireFox and/or Safari.
My code knowledge is limited.
Please help!
Thanks in advance.
