Here are the steps I am going through to do the update.
1. Go to the Updates page in WordPress, click update to 4.5.2
2. Wait… and wait…
3. Finally a screen pops up that I need to upgrade my database, so I click the button to do so.
4. Wait, and wait… and wait, then…
5. Page goes to a “white screen of death”, upon returning the upgrade screen or the WP-admin page it literally is missing all the layout bits, so there is only text going down the page, but the front end of the site is unaffected.
Errors I am finding in the Chrome Dev console:
“Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 418 ()” — this is for a “load-style.php” file…
Then there is a JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.0
and one other error, it’s really just the same error again:
“Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 418 ()” — this is for a “load-style.php” file…
If I got to the front end of the site to check for errors, again, the page loads beautifully, the error says: JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.0
and a google maps API is missing, this is new, but I wouldn’t think that’d cause my backend issue?
What I know about the server:
It’s a managed server, it wasn’t “built for WordPress”, so they have been trying to “make it work” for wordpress since I installed, and I keep getting white screens when I attempt to delete plugins and I can’t authenticate anything. So, when I try to connect to my Google Analytics account, it just doesn’t work…
Is this possibly an issue with the database? maybe an old version of MySQL? Or is this an issue with a “Windows” server? Any suggestions would be great. I’ve literally been trying to update this site for a month now.
Thanks ahead of time.
]]>So what I am saying is that, if I have not logged in then the site shows a blank page, nothing at all, then I goto the dashboard and suddenly it starts working again. Any Help?
]]>After using the one-click ‘update now’ link for 4.3, I’m stuck with this:
‘Please update now’ link is still there.
Updates shows 7 to do, but clicking ‘updates’ jumps back to site’s home page.
Plug-ins show 4 updates to do, but clicking ‘installed plug-ins’ jumps back to my site’s home page.
My theme, WinterDream, has an available update, but clicking the link to update it also jumps to my site’s home page.
I’ve seen threads advising to deactivate plug-ins before updating to 4.3, but it’s too late for that, and now I can’t reach installed plug-ins at all.
I know I have a ‘404 to Start’ plug-in, so that may be why things are bouncing to the home page when there are errors. But as I said, I can’t reach ‘installed plug-ins’ to deactivate that.
Any ideas most heartily welcome!

]]>WordPress can’t copy a file over for some reason. I take it I should update as soon as possible because of hackers.
I tried disabling plugins before and all it did was mess up some customising my friend did which I don;t know how to do.

]]>I was in my WP-admin page and saw the “update to version 2.6” at the top of the screen, so i downloaded it, unzipped, read the read-me; it told me to go to my home directory and delete all wp files except the ones changed, I did so, then put in the new word press files, “pointed” my browser at the wp-admin/upgrade.php and the blank web page with the wordpress logo came up… k so good right?
Well then I tried to log in and it didn’t work, so heres where I think I made a mistake; I re-downloaded WP v.2.6 and replaced EVERYTHING in my home directory with the new files and it asked me to set up wp-config.php like when I first installed WP! Then I tried recopying the files into home directory and now it does nothing… I type in my web address and just my home directory comes up with no wp files and I cant access WP-ADMIN!
please help! What did I do?/what can I do?/what should I do???!!!!
FYI– this was the first time I’ve tried to update my WP and I started this whole thing off pretty web stupid, and I still am but I’m picking up on a lot.
Thanks for any help
