My question is how to have it so that clicking on the flag for a different language takes you to the same page in the other language as you are on to start with. Would this have to be hard coded, or is there a bit of code I could put into the callback ( or whatever it is called ) that would do this for me?
This will be a static site. Using WordPress as a CMS simply for ease of simple edits and updates and the occasional change of theme.
Done a lot of C coding a very long time ago. Very little experience of html, css or wordpress.
]]>I have a multisite setup already, as I had two sites up and running all good in the hood. I wanted to delete the non-original site and get a new secondary one, just start from scratch.
I have the subdomain setup on my hosting site, setup the new site on wordpress, its showing up under Network Admin, BUT when I try to go to the new sites dashboard I just get an error [Oops! Google Chrome could not find etc et]
I already deleted the old second site so I cant look back at its setting and see if I missed something.
Hopefully im just missing a simple step. Not sure what to post here that would help try to decipher this. Everything Im reading is either solved without explaining how or just generic how to start using multisite.
]]>Help much appreciated
www.sparkfiredance.com
I’ve uploaded new wordpress install into subdirectory /newwp2012
unable to run install.php get 404 error
I have changed wpconfig with new database prefix. all the rest same as root install.
I keep reading in circles https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_Multiple_Blogs
with no deeper understanding
this second install is to fully test and customise a new theme. I do not have access to new subdomains.
Thanks for any and all help.
]]>I created the subdomain en.website.com and it shows up in my FTP client.
I then proceeded to copy all of the files from the root (original install) into the en.website.com subdomain folder and changed the wp-config.php database prefix from $table_prefix = ‘wp_’; to $table_prefix = ‘en_’;
I then went to https://en.website.com/wp-admin/install.php and now I can see the dashboard. However, the dashboard is essentially bare and gives me no menu to edit anything other than my profile.
Where have I gone wrong?
Thank you in advance.
Michael
I want to use pretty permalinks, the way I am in the original install.
ie. website.com/about
So in the second install it would look like:
website.com/en/about
I have a single MySQL database. The second install was accomplished by changing the table prefix. ie. wp_ -> en_ I have access to FTP and phpMyAdmin if that helps. It may be possible to add a database but if there is a way around that, it would be preferred.
Can this work and if so, how should I go about it? If not, should I reinstall WordPress using a second database rather than a changed table prefix? Thank you.

]]>Downloaded WP 3.2.1
Created new MYSQL database on my server
unpacked WP and configured wp-config with my server details.
In the folder created by my control pannel, I copied all of the WP files to the folder
In a browser I typed subdomain.maindomain.com/wp-admin/install.php
The isntall is telling me its done however, logging in to its dashboard is impossible as I don?t have a user name or password to login with and the ones I used for the database don’t work, the ones I use for the main domain obviously take me to the main domains dashboard.
Can anyone shed some light into what I have done wrong?
]]>So I installed a second to a new folder with new DB, etc. Problem is .. I cannot log into the admin. It doesn’t say incorrect user or pw, it just spins, reloads right back to the admin login screen. If I use an incorrect login it will say so.
I believe there is something shared from my first install (it still works fine and I can log into it, thankfully!)) that is getting in the way. I did the usual pw resets thru phpmyadmin and also the emergency.php file .. no difference. Uninstall/reinstall .. no difference.
Any ideas on what would cause an admin login problem .. BTW they both have the same user and pw though I tested changing them around and it made no difference.
]]>When clicking a navigation link on the second site, it sends you to the same page on the first site.
So, for example…
https://wp.franchisesforsale.com/zoup/about/
Actually takes you to…
https://wp.franchisesforsale.com/about/
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
What I’ve done:
1. I’m trying to make one WP install my primary website at www.unrequited-love.com, and another WP install a “blog” at www.unrequited-love.com/blog.
2. I’ve repeatedly deleted and reinstalled WP to www.unrequited-love.com directory trying to get it to work.
3. My other WP site at www.unrequited-love.com/blog works fine, it has been running for couple weeks now.
4. I’ve gone into Bluehost C-panel and deleted all original website files (not-WP files). I’ve deleted everything associated with original non-WP website and failed prior WP installs via Filezilla.
5. Now, I can get into WP install for website and get to dashboard, etc., but going to view site results in “404 Not Found
The requested URL /url_001.htm does not exist. ” I think this is a file associated with my original website but the file does not exist now, I don’t know why it’s looking for it.
How to fix? Pulling hair out for several hours now!
BTW, I love WP, much more versatile than what I originally had on my site. Hope I’m not doomed.
