Ive been using Optimole for a couple years and a couple sites. ? Insofar it’s given me peace of mind and good results, thank you.
I use perfmatters plugin for java script and CSS optimization.? I also use litespeed cache for server level caching and CDN. **I also use a plugin that creates physical folders in cpanel. So, my media hierarchy of folders is complex.
I stream Instagram feeds images and RSS feeds with images. The RSS feeds are being served through optimole.? ? The instagram images are served from instagram CDN.
Problems Im having
Im having an ongoing Database issue which I think is due to the volume of images in my installation.? The specific message error messages I was getting reference API being blocked and also says “<h1 data base connection error>”
My host says there is abundance of SQL activity.
QUESTIONS re: “Enable offloading images.”
1. Should “offloading images” reduce database stress and connection issue with my server? Or is it possible this will make server issues worse? ?
2. Could I stop creating thumbnails and other size image if I activate “offload images?”? Or does optimole need the images created at various sizes? ?
3. If I optimized the images using litespeed would that be advantageous? I can create lossy, lossless, or webp.
4. If I did take this step of “offloading” and need to revert the images back. Am I going to be using your tools to revert back? Or would I need to do some other restoration. To re iterate, I do not have a standard media “uploads” folder.
]]>How many days will spam messages been saved?
Can’t find any setting about this.
Or do I need to delete them manually, to save server space?
Thank you,
Marc
]]>In our case the “backup footprint” for the website is growing at an alarming pace, in direct correlation to the number of PDF invoices generated.
We use Japanese text on a WPML-WooCommerce site which perhaps means that the file size is larger than normal.
A normal PDF invoice weighs in at about 5.5MB
Can you advise where these files are stored so that at least we can exclude that directory from our backup routines?
b) If they are indeed stored in a directory, how can they be deleted?
Deleting the order itself from the WC dashboard doesn’t seem to make any difference to the backup footprint.
Can the PDFs be removed manually through FTP without any dire consequences?
]]>And Yes, the setting to delete files in the tab other options”is set correctly.
And, Yes, I have checked with the LR plugin developer if this is correct.
This has several implications:
1.) The remaining unused files are not seen any more by the plugin using the API and are therefore using unnecessary server space. This can be al lot when I need to have 20.000 pictures online. Manually deleting this through a FTP connection is not practical since they cannot be identified automatically.
2.) When a picture is deleted from the gallery and then added back again later, the API will create a second instance of the picture on the server. This will also use unnecessary server space.
How can this be resolved?
]]>-Approximately 300-1000 unique visitors per day (based on use of current online products)
-10-20 posts per week
-most posts will have at least one image with it, so a post could be about 10MB in size, I suppose.
-20 comments per day (about 10 per post)
Can someone use this to give a rough calculation of the size server we require? Is there anything else you need to know to be able to estimate? Or any server specifics you recommend (eg in terms of upload/download capacity)?
]]>I have made a WP site previously for someone who had there own webspace. But I want to make another for myself but don’t have any webspace just as yet. I understand that WP uses the PHP on the server that allows it to work but I wanted to design a site offline. Is there a way that I can do that?
]]>So I’m thinking of building my site by using either WordPress or WordPress MU as a basic CMS.
I want to run up to 10 blogs off the same site, each under a different subdomain (example: blog1.domain.com, blog2.domain.com, etc.). I’ll have complete control over all the blogs, and I’ll be the only person creating new blogs. Each blog will have a different theme and essentially self-contained, which is why I can’t simply use one install of WordPress for everything.
So my question is: would it be better to use WordPress or WordPress MU?
Pros to WordPress
– Simpler installation onto each subdomain through CPanel (but, as recommended, I’ll do updates in another manner)
– More likely that plugins will work
Pros to WordPress MU
– Less space server, and thus reduced cost (?) (due to reusing code rather than installing 10 times?)
– Finally learn how to pronounce the “MU” in WordPress MU
It looks like one install of wordpress took up 64mb of space, so would I need 640mb of space to host just the WordPress code for 10 blogs? Would it be significantly smaller/cheaper to use WordPress MU? Or does the difficulty of using MU for just 10 blogs outweigh the cost of using regular WordPress?
Anything else I’m missing?
Your insights are definitely welcomed. Thanks!
