Unexpected file reversion when using external editor

Hi, we use Visual Studio Code with SFTP to build our initial sites, then WPIDE for small edits after the site has launched.

Lately we have noticed a strange bug that appears to only happen on our sites with WPIDE active during the build process where a file that we had previously edited with VS Code via SFTP would somehow revert back to a previous state, we are not sure what is causing it and we are not even sure if its WPIDE, but since WPIDE has a feature to backup files and perform file restorations, it seemed the most likely cause.

Currently our plan is to install WPIDE after we launch sites to hopefully prevent reversions like that from happening, but we were wondering if there was a way to maybe disable the backup feature to see if that might fix the issue?

Again, we are not entirely sure this is an issue with WPIDE as we have not been able to replicate the bug.

Critical Error Help

The website was contracted out to a third party to build & I can no longer get ahold of that person. I went in through the backend of the website and logged in, made changes (including updating wordpress and plugins). I think my mistake was updating plugins as that’s when the critical error came up.

I downloaded Filezilla & tried logging into the site via FTP, but it can’t connect to the server. The login credentials I used to FTP were what I used to login to the backend of the site. I used SFTP, thelocksmithexperts.com (host), and username & password.

I don’t have any original emails and never got an email from WP about the error. Site is hosted by GoDaddy.

Can someone please help? I have no real or deep background in this area.

Hello, I am also having issues sending to FTP.

I’ve used BackWPup for over a year with no problems, successfully sending weekly backups to cloud storage via FTP. Suddenly this week, all of my sites were unable to connect via FTP.

I spent hours on the phone with my hosting company, ISP, and manufacturer of my modem. No one could find the problem. Now seeing others in this forum experiencing FTP issues, I am wondering if there is a larger issue with the plugin. A bug that may be fixed soon?

Please try to enable FTP Passive Mode in your job -> FTP tab then run it again.

SFTP authentication

I’ve been trying backup plugins and have high hopes for WPVivid. I’m first trying SFTP backup to a server. When I enter the information, then click ‘Test and Add’, nothing happens and it is not added to the storage list. There is no error message explaining why.

I eventually figured it is probably because the server requires public key authentication; for security password authentication is not allowed. Would it be possible to modify the SFTP section to allow key authentication?

For some reason Xcloner cannot seem to successfully create a SFTP storage location. This is using exactly the same fixed destination server IP, port, secret key, username and catchphrase that work fine when creating an SFTP destination from FileZilla on my PC.

Xcloner (and the websites I want to back up) are all on Inmotionhosting.com, shared hosting plan, and my php version for Xcloner is set at 8.1

What troubleshooting steps should I follow in Xcloner, given that I know the destination is otherwise accepting incoming SFTP connections using those credentials?

Hi, is SFTP “Save Backup to” method working?

While I have set the correct informations for the fields (tested many times in a terminal to make sure they’re OK) that is FTP host by its name, FTP port 22, FTP user and password (copied and pasted) and a Subdirectory (or none), I keep getting this message:

connection has failed!
I could connect to the FTP server but I could not log in.
Please check your credentials and try again.

SSH2 is installed on the server and files are manually uploaded from one server to another via the console, but not with the help of your plugin. Test passed. Maybe some settings are wrong?
