]]>First off, thank you for giving this your time, & apologies if I’m in the wrong place, or asking something asked elsewhere – I’ve done some digging, but couldn’t find anything that quite matched what I’m dealing with.
So, I setup my partner’s website, lakorayoga.com, it’s been running without issue for some time, but lately, Jetpack has been pinging me more & more frequently with reports of outages. These have gone from mere minutes, to hours, & now occur multiple times daily, rendering the website essentially inaccessible & thusly, useless.
I’ve been liaising with the host, who have been very helpful, & believe the issue is to do with PHP limits, which they’ve upped in hopes of helping.
Now, I am not an accomplished website designer. I dabbled as a kid & WordPress carries most of the weight.
But, for my part, I’ve done a thorough clean up when I was able to access the back end, everything is up to date, & now that the site is once again inaccessible, have also renamed “plugins” to “plugins.hold” in the FTP.
But, nothing has changed.
The website continues to be unreachable, with a time out error.
At some point, it will likely go live again, but it’s anyone’s guess for how long. Short of deleting it & starting again though, I’m not sure what options I really have. Obviously, losing that content, that time spent setting up etc, is a last resort.
So, I have a few questions:
1) Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be happening? My host says “PHP limits” but they’ve apparently increased these & can’t see any other issues, it seems they feel the issue is my WordPress install / some aspect of the site
2) Does anyone have any suggestions, short of the last resort kind?
We’re running the latest version of WP (5.9.1 I think? Can’t check because I can’t access the backend while the site is unavailable), we do have a few plugins, but I can’t recall their names, other than one being Google Site Kit, but even with the plugins folder changed to “.hold”, the site is still unavailable, & our theme is Neve, with some custom CSS etc.
Any help would be super welcome & appreciated, and I apologise in advance if I am being incredibly dumb here!
Thanks!

I don’t know what it means or what to do about it. I can’t even tell what version of WP my site is running. I get the same message whether I’m using Safari or Firefox. While I’m not completely computer illiterate, I will be grateful for explanations that are offered with kindness, patience, in plain English, and with as little jargon as possible (or with technical terms defined).
Thank you,
Ruth
I moved geographically within the state and for the past 2 months or so I have been unable to access the site.
At first I was getting error messages on both Internet Explorer and Firefox about the site not being found, later Yahoo error messages said that Yahoo had determined the site was dangerous (?) and would not access it.
I’ve been round and round with Yahoo and Microsoft. Now when I sign in to WordPress and go to my site manager, Firefox tells me ‘this site cannot be accessed’ with a warning sign. ??????? If I try Internet Explorer, it redirects to a ‘searchus.com’ page with the https://www.shoutyourname.com prefilled in the search box. The search box brings up several options (Amazon, the SYN site, etc) and if I click on the Shout Your Name website, it redirects to https://www.ccs.infospace.com
WHY can’t I access this site I am SUPPOSED to be maintaining.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
A user in the other forum – yes I posted in the wrong forum – said they could log in fine and suggested I might have a virus/malware issue. I have two laptops, neither of which can access the site.
I ran the program they suggested and found a couple viruses that had gone past the malware protection I was running (WILFORDdotBIZ and MYWORDTOOLsomething – filename truncated).
I re-booted and STILL could not log in from either Firefox or Internet Explorer. I got several error messages (same as before): Firewall error 314, your computer is configured correctly but the site appears to be unavailable, this website is unavailable, and in the site manager screen on WordPress a hazard sign next to Shout Your Name and when you click on it, it says “this site cannot be accessed” and the next line says “disconnect site”.
]]>I installed the Updraft Plus plugin yesterday for my company’s site https://mccaffertyco.com/ . I carefully followed the instructions on https://updraftplus.com/support/configuring-google-drive-api-access-in-updraftplus/ to copy our backups to Google drive (I enabled our “drive API” beforehand). I used the redirect URL generated in my updraft settings to create our client ID, then inputted this info back into updraft and clicked “saved changes.”
After I clicked save changes, I refreshed the page before I clicked the link to complete the authentication (I *stupidly* misinterpreted the authentication instructions to mean “refresh this page after you save changes and then click this link” *derp*). Instead of my wp-admin page reloading, it went blank and displayed the message “err_site_unavailable.” I tried accessing my actual site in another tab but was met with the same message.
Obvs I started freaking out and went back into my google drive client ID settings and clicked “reset secret” in hopes that the original secret tied to the updraft settings would then be invalid and the site would restore. Although this change did not immediately restore the site, the site did end up becoming available after about 45 mins.
Ok as newb to wordpress I recognize that my understanding of this issue may be flawed (so any suggestion/advice is welcome) but some of my initial questions are:
1. Does refreshing the page before clicking to authenticate Google cause a site to be unavailable? Basically, does the authenticate step affect the functionality of the front end of the site?
2. Or is the “site unavailable” status a sign of another problem (such as space)? Would changing the “expert” split settings to 100MB (instead of 500MB) improve the load time? https://updraftplus.com/faqs/how-much-free-disk-space-do-i-need-to-create-a-backup/
3. I configured the backups to run monthly. Does updraft immediately begin running a backup after you save your configuration settings (does configuring the backup for a large site or one with limited space on its hosting platform always result in the site becoming unavailable)?
3. Did resetting the secret restore the site or would it have come back automatically after loading?
4. If our hosting plan’s space is an issue, would we encounter this same problem if we have backed up using a pay service like Vaultpress?
When I went back into updraft plugin settings today, they had been reverted to the default settings and there are no existing backups. I want to try again but I don’t want to risk the site becoming unavailable even after I do correctly click to authenticate Google after saving my changes.
Our site was built by an outside developer but I haven’t been able to reach them since this problem occurred. I did leave a message and email them immediately following this incident to explain and ask for their help. They haven’t responded in any form yet, but could they have been the ones to restore the site? They don’t have a backup of our site (which is why we decided to try backing up to begin with). I’m still trying to navigate this whole back-end process so your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

]]>I was recently asked to check in on a small issue related to Woocommerce. However as of this morning, I can’t see the site or access the dashboard at all. I just get the standard “page unavailable” message from both Firefox and Chrome. However, when I try to look at the site with my phone on a 3G connection, I can see the site fine. I updated the site to WP 4.0.1 and managed to update plugins but I still can’ see the site on my PC or other devices connected to wifi at home.
A tracert for regattapoint.org doesn’t resolve – tracerouting the direct IP address shows a drop right from my router. I’ve flushed DNS cache, reset the router, released/renewed DHCP, still no result. I’ve cleared both Chrome and Firefox cache and cookies, restarted my PC, still nothing.
I previously had a plugin called Wordfence on my site. I didn’t see my IP address listed on any blacklists for it, but just for testing purposes, I deactivated and then deleted the plugin. Nothing. I removed WP Supercache as well, still nothing.
Now when I go into the WP Dashboard on my phone, the Admin page shows up as blank. The front end of the site still looks fine.
I’m running out of options – what could be causing this? Godaddy was not much help because this didn’t seem to be a problem on their end and more of a problem with my ISP. I haven’t touched this site at all in recent months, why would my ISP suddenly deny me access to the site? It makes no sense at all.
Any suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated.
]]>The support forum suggested that I disable my plugging and re-enable them one at a time. All of the other plugins work as expected since deactivating them via my CPanel and file manager… I renamed the folder which contained the plugins. The only plugin which does not reawaken is Updraft. It repeats printing the messages on screen, which can be seen below.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am a newbie to managing a blog and I may not have sufficient skill to follow a complex series of instructions.
Kind regards,
Jeff
