Re-establishing URL on a host that connects apps to domains/sites

I have successfully exported (Duplicator Pro) a website at chessinstitute.ca, and moved it over to test the transition at cic.shep.ca, on my hosting provider, Opalstack. Since Opalstack has you set up domains, sites and apps separately, the WordPress install is an app called ‘cic’.

My understanding of how this should work from here is that I need to:

create the chessinstitute.ca domain and site at Opalstack and attach the ‘cic’ app to the site and domain
re-point the DNS from our registrar to the Opalstack nameservers

At that point, the DNS should re-resolve to Opalstack; it should find the chessinstitute.ca domain and site at Opalstack, and connect to the app.

What I’m not entirely clear on is how to ensure that the site itself starts delivering pages like chessinstitute.ca/about and chessinstitute.ca/news instead of cic.shep.ca/about and cic.shep.ca/news, and so on.

Is there an additional step to “re-establish” the domain propagation using the “correct” URL? Is it as simple as just changing the site URL in WordPress’ dashboard / Settings / General, from ‘cic.shep.ca’ to ‘chessinstitute.ca’ or is there something I need to do in wp-config.php or elsewhere?

We’re in the middle of the season where parents sign up for camps, etc., so I’d like this to be as seamless as possible.

no matter what I do i can’t delete – sitename at google search results. first, i tried deleting it from yoast metabox – didn’t work. After that, i tried delete the title from the yoast setting but no matter what i did, i still had the problem. I sent yoast a mail and they answered me: Meanwhile, let’s troubleshoot the issue.
If you have set the correct SEO title in the Yoast SEO meta box, then it could be possible that another plugin or theme is outputting the wrong one.
Please, as the first step check your theme and other plugins settings to see if this is the case.

In Google Search results page, my website is showing the domain name instead of the site name.

So for example, my website in the search results shows up as:

So, where do I change the site name (the words that display to the right of my favicon)? I’ve tried in wordpress under appearance > Customize > site identity but that hasn’t worked.

Change Title in Facebook

Hello. I encountered a problem that when you share a site link on Facebook, the site name is added to the main title of the article (Title). This is sometimes witty, but I would like to control this process and, when necessary, adjust it at my own discretion. By default, I would just like to see the Title (as I have it set on almost all pages of the site), and when necessary – I can, as I understood, edit the appearance on the Social tab inside the page itself.

But the fact is that even there, editing does not change anything. I added 2023 (year variable) but Facebook doesn’t show it. Maybe there’s a heavier setting somewhere that wastes everything in that direction.

I also used the search for my problem and found a case here on the forum (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/how-to-change-facebook-ogtitle-tag-in-rank-maths/) where you advised to use a hook. I did all this (https://rankmath.com/kb/filters-hooks-api-developer/#opengraph) as the article says, but I don’t understand any of these hooks.

Well, I added the file, but what to do with it next? What kind of filter is that? What is he doing? I don’t see any changes on the website, and the Title on Facebook also has the name of the site. I don’t know programming well enough to understand this, so I’m asking, in simple words, what should I do.

All I want is to be able to share the posts on Facebook in such a way that I have only what I want to see there in the title – by default only Title. I want it to not have Title + Site name by default, just Title.

I ask you to explain everything in such a way that it is clear well, I am not a programmer and I need more explanations about some subtle settings (like hooks or something like that).

sitedesc variable in home page title

hi there, have been using WPSSO for years in conjunction with AIOSEO but in lastest update, the home page title tag has been messed up and showing %%sitedesc%% in the title tag and can’t get rid of that variable tag.

AIOSEO seems to be handling all the title tags for all the other pages except the home page title tag. I change it on the page itself in the WPSSO seach engine title field, but the vcariable tag always shows up at the end.

I don’t see a place in the settings to turn off WPSSO for SEO title tags so not sure how to resolve this.

This just started with the most recent plugin update. Can anyone offer any advice on this please? Thanks!

Hi, you guys have been so helpful, I just need help with one last small thing.

I know the sitename is supposed to wrap on a small screen, that’s fine, but I’d like my sitename to have a bit more space allocated to it on a medium size screen, eg. 1280 x 800. Is there a way to amend the CSS so that it doesn’t wrap quite so quickly and instead continues to stretch across into the white space available?
