Hi! I used to run a non-profit organization called Where’s My Midwife? We created a blog on a wordpress.com site, but have since taken it down because someone stole our content and started a www.ads-software.com site using our content. When I contacted the people responsible, they stated that we would need to pay for it to be removed, essentially holding it for ransom. Here’s an excerpt from our email exchange:

Hi Kristi and hope you are well in these unusual times.

Just to explain about the domain, we buy expired domains which have links to them, and use those to boost our own sites.

While I am happy to take down the old content, we can’t just delete the domain because we paid several hundred for it, plus renewal fees for last two years of 60 odd, plus hosting fees etc

If you would like to buy it for ￡500, that would be fine and I can transfer it to a registrar of your choice. This is not us making money out of you, just literally just covering our costs, I hope you understand.

Finding these expired domains takes a lot of time and expertise and, in a usual case we never give them up. In sensitivity to your situation, and your profession which I admire deeply, we can do it. I hope this works for you guys.

If you want to do it, you’ll need to:

(a) let us know
(b) request domain transfer from your domain registrar
(c) pay via Paypal
(d) I will unlock the domain and it will be moved over..

Is this legal? And if so, why? What can I do to get him to take down our content or hide it. We are trying to relaunch the Where’s My Midwife? brand at a different site.

How to remove my themes from the WordPress repo

I have these old themes in the WordPress repository that have not been updated in years. I would like to remove them, as someone else is claiming them as his own. His site is in Bulgaria, and a DMCA is not going to be very helpful, so I’m taking steps to try to prevent him from using my content and my work. Is there any way to completely remove the themes?

I recently sold RoseCityGardens.com through Godaddy, and whomever bought it put one of my themes on it and proceeded to put all of my old content on my site onto the new site. The posts you see are posts that I wrote over a year ago. I”m about to delete all my themes, thought I would give y’all a heads up, so you can avoid dealing with this person in future.

Someone is publishing my old content and has access to my account/posts. I no longer own the domain, but the blog is still in my list of blogs I own on wordpress.com and whoever bought the domain after me is republishing my old content on a hacked up site. Is there a way for you to resolve this?

Help with Possible Phishing for PW's

What started out with a site that was just stealing content, it looks like there is more at play here.

Before filing a DCMA, we were going to ask them to remove the content, log.in comment, but it’s set up as so (in my opinion, I could be totally wrong) that it’s redirected to phish the pw of the wordpress username’s (it seems to be)

So we registered a arbitrary PW so we could log in and place a comment, this is after we contacted the owner directly, no response. How open are we now, do these sites having our content in anyway makes is more of a target? Is going through their provider the only recourse, they insist there’s nothing they can do unless we file a DCMA? But I don’t want to waste anymore time if we don’t have to on these sites.

Hello,

I am trying to find a way to contact a wordpress blog owner who has no contact information available on his blog. Whois searches show nothing for this. The blog in question is: https://darkstorm207.wordpress.com/

This blog has copied original content from my site and placed it on his blog. I am in the process of website cleanup due to the evil Google Panda and must insist that this blog owner remove the copied content. These scraper sites are killing me since Panda came out in April!

So, how do I go about trying to contact the owner of this wordpress blog?
