Problems with automatically upgrading from admin plugin page.

When I switched 2 of my sites over from 2.92 to 3.0 I have noticed some issues with the upgrade automatically links for a plugin. When a new updated plugin is found there is a link next to the plugin to upgrade automatically. When clicking on this link I get a screen showing it is downloading but that is it. The screen never updates to say it was successful and plugin was reactivated as in 2.9.2. See the screen shots for more information

As you can see from screen shot #3 the updated plugin was installed but not activated.

I checked on my other 2.9.2 site and I don’t have this issue.

My upgrade procedure was as follows:

From 2.92 I downloaded the 3.0 beta 2. Unzipped the file. I deleted from my wordpress root directory directory, wp-admin, wp-includes. Then I selected all the new files except the wp-content directory and uploaded the new files overwriting the old ones.

I then completed the install through the login dashboard.

I have since used the automatic upgrade to change to 3.0 rc1 and 3.0 rc2.

They all have the same issue as described above.

During my search for this problem I could not find anything. But as always it could be the wrong key words.

Upgrade automatically does nothing. When I upgraded to 2.9 RC1 I would occasionally upgrade auto to the nightly release..now when I try to click upgrade auto nothing happens.

If I decide to upgrade manually..what the heck do I need to do???

“Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content)”

I’m running 5 WordPress sites. 2 of them refuse to auto-install upgrades, and give the error “Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content)”. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why, and it is frustrating beyond all belief. I also get a similar error when auto-upgrading WordPress plugins. The CHMOD values are the same across all of these sites…so, why does it work for some and not for others?!

When I try to click on the link to Upgrade WordPress automatically nothing happens. I get this:

Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-2.8.6.zip.

And then nothing ever happens from there. It just stays like that. When I ugrade my Plugins automatically, it works just fine. I’m using 2.8.5 and I had this same problem with 2.8.4 as well.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

WordPress Memory Allocation

The ‘upgrade automatically’ works great except for one thing – afterwards, the user STILL has to manually update the wp-settings.php file to account for memory allocation.

i would think it would be pretty simple to keep the current setting in place during the upgrade?

Running WordPress 2.7 on five different blogs with different hosting services. Upgrade Automatically process shows the following message:

Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-2.7.1.zip

This is all I see for any length of time. Web servers shows an attempt to download zip file but shows file size as 0kb.

Did have the “WordPress Automatic Upgrade” plug in (version 1.2.2) but this plug-in has not worked since 2.7 was released. Deactivated plug-in and uninstalled and still can not get the Upgrade Automatically process to complete.

Any suggestions or am I stuck on manual upgrades?

Currently running WordPress 2.7 on 5 different blogs hosted on 5 different hosting services.

Every time I try the Update Automatically process I get the following message

Downloading update from https://www.ads-software.com/wordpress-2.7.1.zip

Nothing happens after that for any length of time. My web server shows an attempt to download the Zip file but file size is always 0.

If it makes a difference, I do have the “WordPress Automatic Upgrade” V. 1.2.2 installed but this doesn’t work since 2.7 came out so I deactivated the plug in and deleted it. Still have the same problem.

Any suggestions or am I stuck on Manual Upgrade?

Upgrade automatically without FTP?

On a lot of my blogs I’m able to upgrade automatically using the built-in feature in WordPress. But some of my blogs want me to enter FTP-info.

I thought this had something to do with CHMOD, but after CHMOD:ing all my files I still can’t upgrade automatically without enter my FTP info.

How do I fix this? I want to be able to upgrade automatically without entering my FTP-info.

On some of my blogs, the “upgrade automatically” works flawlessly. However on others (on different servers), I am always asked for the FTP approval, before the upgrade happens.

Is this server related? Can I ask my server to activate something so that I don’t need the FTP step?
