Changing virtual directory name

I created an ABOUT page and it created /about/….then I deleted it and created another and it created /about-2/. How do I go about renaming the virtual directory back to /about/ so the directory url stays consistent with other pages?

Theme not recognized when using virtual directory (IIS)

Hi,

I have clean WP 4.1 installation in a subdirectory.

The overall solution structure looks as follows:

application
- plugins
- themes
vendor
wordpress
index.php
wp-config.php
web.config

I serve it using IIS 7 on Windows 8.1.

My custom theme is located outside the solution root and I map it as a virtual directory into application/themes/mytheme.

All files inside mytheme folder are accessible:

https://localhost/application/themes/mytheme/style.css
https://localhost/application/themes/mytheme/screenshot.png

I’ve also tried allowing directory listing for https://localhost/application/themes/mytheme/.

But WordPress doesn’t recognize it.

Where the problem could lie?

I have WordPress 4.1 installed on IIS 8.5. The site is up and running in a virtual directory titled WordPress. Can someone provide instructions on how to remove the virtual directory and run it directly from the Default Website?

installed a theme
when i click on members “https://example.com/members” it shows IIS 7.5 detailed error 404 page not found
Requested URL https://example.com:80/wordpress/members
Physical Path D:\inetpub\vhosts\example.com\httpdocs\wordpress\members
Its a virtual sapce which does not exist in database
I tried to create a folder “members” in wordpress directory but still same error turns up
Please help me out

I’ve managed to install a new blog on my server, but when I try to login I get the error message “Directory Listing Denied. This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.”
Would appreciate any advice.

I want to use a static page as the home page and then put a link called News at the top.

The codex here says

When you create a static front page for your site, you must also create a way for WordPress to show your most recent posts in a “virtual directory” called blog, news, or whatever else you choose to call it. This is true whether or not you are actually using Posts in WordPress.

Okay, that makes sense. But how do you make a virtual directory consisting of your recent posts?

I’m guessing that you are not doing it with .htaccess but using a handcrafted URL that will show all the recent posts (not excerpts).

Also, I’m guessing that someone has also documented this, but I’m too stupid to find it

Can someone point me in the right direction or offer their two cents about how to accomplish this?

The trick is that I do not know want the News directory of recent posts to be excerpts but full posts.

Directory Listing Denied after Login

Hello,

I’ve installed wordpress to a subdirectory on my domain, but when I try to log in with the username admin and password provided, I receive the error message, “Directory Listing Denied. This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.” I can go to www.girlpaladin.com/leftunsaid/index.php and see my WordPress blog, but if I leave off the index.php, I get the same Diretory Listing Denied error.

I’ve unstalled WordPress, reinstalled it, tried different subdirectories; same deal each time.

I searched this support forum for that error, and contacted my webspace provider, since that seemed to be the common recommendation. My webspace provider helpfully replied back that they do not provide customer support for WordPress and that I should contact WordPress support. However, they know the software works on their server because others have reported using it successfully.

My webspace provider is www.freedom2surf.net. I’d very much appreciate your help in figuring this out.

Urgent: Virtual Directory listing not allowed

My wordpress site recently stopped working; I re-installed several times and couldn’t get it to work (blank pages). I did all the necessary steps with the MySQL databases etc. I run a library site and couldn’t be down so set up two folders one Library one Library_Old; I pointed the webserver to Library_old (a temp site) so that we could have a library site. I reinstalled wordpress in the folder Library, set up a virtual directory “WordPress” (pointing to Library) so that I could test and get the site running again. I can log into the admin site fine but when I “visit the site” I am getting the Virtual Directory listing denied error message. When I look at different themes from inside the admin panel I get the same message. Yes, I DO have index.php set in the “home directory” (running IIS). I tried pointing our domain to the “library folder” and get the same message … I’m tired, frustrated and stumped … can you help??

install works, but login fails

I have a new installation that won’t let me log in. It appears to have successfully installed and leaves me with login button which goes to

https://host/wp/wp-login.php

When I try and log in I get:

Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed and the URL is:

https://host/wp/wp-admin/

Shouldn’t it be pointing at a specific file in the admin folder?

On ixwebhosting.com, have one wp site up and running, have installed another wp site, but get the message Directory listing denied. This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. Have done everything I know how to do, which isn’t that much. Wasted the last 6 hours looking for answers. Now I give up. Any help? My site comes up when I put in www.appleseedmusical.com/wp-login.php, but when I click on the admin link, it gives me This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.

I’m on the brink of madness. Can you help?
