I have repeatedly received the following security warnings after scans:

Filename:?…/public_html/stats/webalizer.current
File Type: Not a core, theme, or plugin file from www.ads-software.com.
Details: This file appears to be installed or modified by a hacker to perform malicious activity. If you know about this file you can choose to ignore it to exclude it from future scans. The matched text in this file is: cat /etc/passwd

The issue type is: Backdoor:SH/passwdaccess.60
Description: Theft of server password information. Also sometimes seen in a backdoor known as Liz0ziM

Between each detection I deleted the file. Also, I visually examined the file to look for evidence of the passwd file info being inside but did not find it. Is there a way to know for sure if this is really malicious or a false positive?

A couple of sites that run webalizer have triggered critical alerts in their most recent Wordfence scan, with stats/webalizer.current marked as malicious/unsafe. I’ve not seen this before and it has just happened on two sites at the same time. The marked file does not get picked up by AV.

Any ideas please?

Jetpack Statistics vs Awestats vs Webalizer

I cannot understand why different statistic programs show such massive differences. What is real?

Last month, December, my www.knysnakeep.org result in the following:

Jetpack – 19 967 pages
Awestats – 117 431 pages / 21,752 visits
Webalizer – 244 539 views / 41 870 visits

I’m assuming i’d be even more perplexed if i added Google Analytics into the mix.

PS: Jetpack, especially the photon aspect, is worryingly responsible for most Hits.

Changing Page Content

I am new to wordpress and I can’t seem to figure out how to change the generic content on the theme I have activated.

I chose Webalizer. I can add blog posts and they show up on the template. I can customize colors for the background.

I have created pages but I can see them on the site either. How can I get them to show up on the site?

Also, I cannot find where to change/remove the title on the site that says “Webalizer” in the top left corner, nor can I change any of the content on the page.

Plugin active but webalizer still peaks

We have the plugin activated and it does pick up on brute-force bots, however our webalizer stats are still polluted with 10.000+ access attempts; isnt it possible to return a HTTP 403 error for users who are temporarily blocked?
or otherwise automate a connection with wp-ban?

Plugin to leverage Awstats or Webalizer data

Okay.. so this may be a dumb question. But, why is there not a current plugin to display the Awstats or Webalizer data that is already residing on most webhosts these days?

The data is already there. No need to create it or duplicate it like many stat solutions do. Even if it’s not super-duper or consistent with Google Analytics, it would be a nice way to show just some basic visitor traffic. No need to create a GA account, or WordPress.com account (jetpack). Just configure it to find the data on the server.

I run WP installations for many clients who I’m sure would like just the basic stat info in their dashboards.

Anyhow… just wondering.

Problems with webalizer

I have used webalizer to see traffic statistics on my blog site but today when I clicked on it I get an error message.

Error 404: File not found.

I am using the same link at another blog site with version 3.1.2 and it is working.

Have something changed with the newer versions of WordPress and that’s why it is not working?

Display site stats for visitors?

I want to be able to have a way to display the stats/traffic of my site on the front end, so that potential advertisers can see that my site is worth their time…what I’ve been doing is pasting a screenshot of the Webalizer stats on my ads info page, but that requires me to regularly update it. Isn’t there a plugin or some way to display this info (page views, site visits, etc) for visitors to see in real time?

Statistics seem messed up since installing WP

I’m on a host with cPanel and Webalizer stats. Previously, I could see in my Webalizer stats, under Total Referrers, lots of different pages referring visitors to my site. Most pages listed were from my own site, since I had internal links, but also listed were always a number of search engines, webmail services, miscellaneous pages from websites to blogs to message boards.

Every since transitioning my site to WordPress a few months ago, it seems that the number of other pages listed has gone down a lot, with my Referrers now being almost entirely internal, i.e., my own pages.

Could this because of all the different related/recent post/comment listings on every page, and/or all the different dynamically created archives? Do these gives bots a lot more internal links to crawl that then end up taking over one’s Referrer stats? Something else entirely going on here? Any insight would be appreciated.
