This week we got started on re-creating Video Blogger from scratch. Nothing of the old plugin will exist.

There is still a lot of work to do to get this plugin to where we want it but we can start testing. I just posted some basic instructions to get started…

New Data Sources Database Table

Version 7.0.7 will now install a new database table as part of the plugins core functionality. The table will be named ecsvi_datasources and will manage…well sources of data. So if you see that table and your wondering where the hell it came from, now you know.

This means we’re moving towards allowing .csv files to be used outside of the current designated content folder. Oh and it is pretty much required for .xml import so that the source can be located on other domains, a common practice with XML.

This new feature will not be pressed upon current users too quickly. That means despite this post and the table being installed you won’t get benefits from it for a while. We want to avoid complications by taking small steps. You may see the plugin storing data in the table but the data won’t be used. That will be the first phase.

Log Table Limit Now Applied

The new version 7.0.2 now prevents the database log table growing too large.

There is a 48 hour limit on it. Eventually more settings will come to not only control the expiry of log entries but control what is logged. Most of the system is in place but these tweaks are low priority on our task list until people ask for it so speak up folks

Re-development Started July 2013

Hey

This plugin was put together quickly to test reaction. We are not working on a new edition which will be released as version 1.0.0 and acts as an example plugin.

Within the plugins package will be a folder containing our range of functions that we use to display notices within our own plugins. This plugin is intended for developers to copy the functions and CSS over to their plugin or admin theme.

This should not take too long so expect something soon.

Version 7.0.4 White Screen Fix

Right now the files for 7.0.4 are uploading to the repository.

Version 7.0.3 was released early this morning and then a critical bug was found which causes a white screen.

Due to the critical nature of the fault the user reporting it has been giving the paid edition free. Please report all faults for a chance to get a reward. We have various options for a reward also.

ECI Tutorial Videos 2013

A playlist of new tutorial videos have been published to YouTube. It is true most are aimed at the premium edition but even premium edition videos can help you figure out where you want to go in the long term.

We are going to create more videos for the free edition only and some that apply to both. So please give us some thumbs up on the videos you like and let us know if there are any you would like made.

You can send your CSV file and explain your project so that videos use some of your specifications, if you wish.

Paid Edition Forum

We don’t mind discussing the premium edition in this forum and it does not appear to be against www.ads-software.com terms. However we do have our own forum at WebTechGlobal and there are individual forums setup for different discussions about Easy CSV Importer. You find more help from existing posts there.

Registration for our forum is done through WordPress. If you purchased the plugin you may already have a WordPress account with WebTechGlobal. The same login details can be used to access the phpBB forum.

Important Points

Right now the login for both is not global via cookies. You will need to enter login details for blog and forum separately. That will not always be the case but we’re being careful with how fast we move on our integration.
At this stage we have disabled registration through phpBB itself. This is part of a long term plan to control accounts/profiles through WordPress for blog and forum. We’re going one small step at a time to give us a chance to test each change and get the security right first time.
We are creating our own bridge plugin. Some of the very best that exist are not well supported yet they have great potential. They fall short of having some features that could make a webmasters life easier and we intend to deliver on that. It may take time because as I said we are taking small steps while monitoring security and deciding on how best to control the flow of new users.

Plugin Re-developed 2013

We’ve not long uploaded the new build. It’s a whole new plugin focusing on being an easy importer. It was built using the CSV 2 POST plugin core and both plugins will progress alongside each other in terms of the functionality.

CSV 2 POST
This is(another WebTechGlobal plugin) that was designed for unlimited expansion without interfering with existing interface features too much. The interface is busy and some of the advanced feature makes the interface a little confusing for none developers. Actually some developers get stumped because they are so used to the standard importers on WordPress. The core of the plugin holds a lot of ability so it only made sense to use it for Easy CSV Importer.

Easy CSV Importer
The key difference with our new ECI 7.0.0 released in the last 24 hours…is the interface. We’re trying to offer about 80% of the functionality in CSV 2 POST but in an easy fashion. To achieve this we’ll need to use Ajax a lot and update the UI based on options being selected. We’re not there yet but what we have to start with is great.

Continued Development
Both plugins will continue to grow. Where one improves so will the other, in most cases. Much of the growth will be in the premium edition but for every few key improvements we make to our paid version we like to release a little something new for free users.

Remember to get a copy of the full edition from WebTechGlobal and do not update using www.ads-software.com. You may also get a copy of CSV 2 POST’s paid edition to help you establish which plugin suits you best. We provide both plugins for the price of one at this time but it is a short term offer.
