For all eight sites, it displays:
Warning: Use of undefined constant ABSPATH – assumed ‘ABSPATH’ (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /shows-full-server-file-path-here/wp-settings.php on line 33
Warning: require(ABSPATHwp-includes/version.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /shows-full-server-file-path-here/wp-settings.php on line 33
Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘ABSPATHwp-includes/version.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php7.4′) in /shows-full-server-file-path-here/wp-settings.php on line 33
This is the last section of wp-config.php for all sites:
/* That’s all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */
/** Absolute path to the WordPress directory. */
if ( ! defined( ‘ABSPATH’ ) ) {
define( ‘ABSPATH’, dirname( __FILE__ ) . ‘/’ );
}
/** Sets up WordPress vars and included files. */
require_once ABSPATH . ‘wp-settings.php’;
Line 33 of wp-settings.php shows:
require ABSPATH . WPINC . ‘/version.php’;
I’ve also tried various ways of turning off debugging with no success. I’m not very familiar with the code, so I’m not sure where else to look.

The site is experiencing technical difficulties.
Please tell me what to do as I have no clue how to resolve this. It’s the first time upgrading wp has produced a fatal error! It is very urgent.
Thanks,

]]>Server environment:
Apache Version 2.4.43
PHP Version 7.2.29
MySQL Version 10.2.31-MariaDB
Architecture x86_64
Operating System linux
Tech support for the server returned this evaluation of the problem in the wp-settings.php file in the root folder:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘new’ (T_NEW) in /home/jaspriv0/public_html/italy/wp-settings.php on line 646
The identified problem is the same for both sites (different lines, of course.)
The offending line is: $wp_the_query =& new WP_Query(); (same in both sites.)
As near as I can tell, here is a bit more context from a site that is working. In the wp-settings.php file the line looks like this:
From https://…./daggershaw, a site that is working:
/**
* WordPress Query object
* @global WP_Query $wp_the_query
* @since 2.0.0
*/
$GLOBALS['wp_the_query'] = new WP_Query();
From the non-working site https://....Italy:
/**
* WordPress Query object
* @global object $wp_the_query
* @since 2.0.0
*/
$wp_the_query =& new WP_Query();
Can anyone suggest an edit?
Thanks,
Peter Rivard
My domain is whinar.se, and this is all that’s visible right now:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ”; ‘ (T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING), expecting ‘)’ in /customers/6/9/6/whinar.se/httpd.www/wp-settings.php on line 31
I also tried to edit that specifik line in the document affected, but the issue remains…
]]>Anyway, I am the webmaster of the Heterodoxia blog. Unfortunately, after a year’s worth of hacks (my server said that they were targeting my mobile plugin) I thought things went back to normal. This morning, my blog won’t load, and instead spits out this line:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ''; ' (T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING), expecting ')' in /home/hyperbor/www/www/heterodoxia/wp-settings.php on line 31
Here’s the code of the settings file:
{
$ff .= substr(pack('H*', sha1($fa.$ff.$fe)), 0, $n);
]]>Hi there,
i’ve been having some troubles updating wordpress and it had something to do with the wp-settings.php
Now i downloaded the update manually and updated the new settings.php file. Now nothing works anymore and i am so foolish to not download the old php file first. This is the error it gives now when i try to open the site.
Warning: require(/home/zilvertron/domains/zilvertron.com/public_html/wordpress/wp-includes/class-wp-metadata-lazyloader.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/zilvertron/domains/zilvertron.com/public_html/wordpress/wp-settings.php on line 153

So i have no clue what to do from here.

My site is installed/hosted on Bluehost at https://www.arhistoryhub.com/hub.
Bluehost provides a “Reset Core Files” function that makes the site work briefly, then it crashes again, with the above error on the error log.
Any help would be appreciated.
]]>I’m french, please excuse me if there are any language issues in the following post.
I am in charge of a small website for my studies. The URL is masterisfdauphine.com .
It was created with the 1&1 app center tool.
I don’t know if the wordpress version was uptaded recently. FTP access to the metadata let me see the version is now 4.4.
The website crashed about two weeks ago. I get this message error when I try to open it :
Warning: require(/homepages/18/d439880397/htdocs/clickandbuilds/MasterISFDauphine/wp-includes/default-constants.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /homepages/18/d439880397/htdocs/clickandbuilds/MasterISFDauphine/wp-settings.php on line 22
Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required ‘/homepages/18/d439880397/htdocs/clickandbuilds/MasterISFDauphine/wp-includes/default-constants.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php5.5′) in /homepages/18/d439880397/htdocs/clickandbuilds/MasterISFDauphine/wp-settings.php on line 22
What I tried :
– deleting all the plugins by FTP access. No change
– go to the mentionned file (default-constants.php) by FTP access and change the access rights to adfrw(644) since it was w(200). The site goes back online for a few seconds, but then my ftp connection is closed, and when I connect again, the rights are back to w(200).
What should I do ?
Thanks for your time.
