Occasionally when I vist my web site I notice that ?‘/?doing_wp_cron=123456‘ is appended to the URL ?(https://mysite.com/?doing_wp_cron=123456). My SEO person is complaining saying this is having a negative impact on our Google search ratings.

Doing some searching I see that WPcron is part of a standard WP install and used to schedule events. I also see that I can completely disable it if I want.

Im not sure why I just started seeing this recently and would assume that the SEO person would have noticed it earlier in the logs. We have not installed any new plugins recently.

Why did this just start recently?

I don’t want to disable it, I’m sure that backup plugin, WordFence, cache clearing etc uses it.

Will this negatively impact our search ratings?

With so many sites built with WordPress and WPcron being enabled by default there must be a good solution to this issue?

Cached files seem to corrupt every week

I use preload on WP Supercache.

For some reason, my site seems to brake every week or so. The CSS disappears and the site becomes unusable.

I’ve tried having “Refresh preloaded cache files every?1440 minutes” and still it breaks roughly once a week (or every 5 days). I set garbage collection to once a day also to try and see if that was effecting it.

Also, I use Asset Cleanup to combine javascript and css. it could be something to do with this.. although I’m really not sure.

The page is currently not broken – I’ve just reset the cache, this seems to correct it then I have to preload again.

Any ideas? It’s most annoying as I can never work out exactly when the break is going to happen. Could it be to do with WP-cron?

Any help appreciated.. PS if you need birthday songs, check out the site!

I apologize for my poor English.

I have a question regarding wp-cron.

I read on many websites about the possibility of deactivating it with a setting in wp-config.php and replacing it with a cronjob that calls it.

My question concerns sites with low traffic (so it may “skip” the publication of scheduled posts).

If I have an SEO plugin like Yoast, does the sitemap update when the google crawler passes?

Or, since the post hasn’t been published, isn’t the sitemap updated either?

I just enabled automatic updates for the ‘Mailchimp for WordPress’ extension and got this error:

Automatic update overdue by 5 days. There may be a problem with WP-Cron.

Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it ?

WP Cron issues

I have a weird issue that I have been ignoring for a while now. I vaguely remember but a couple years ago I had issues with my Scheduling of posts. It used to work fine but I forget if it was a plugin that messed it up or what happened, but my wp_cron was disabled in the wp-config.php file. I had an error message in my updraftplus saying there was 30 something scheduled jobs that haven’t gone through basically. So I decided to try and take a look at this as I would like to schedule posts once again. I changed the value of define(‘DISABLE_WP_CRON’, true); to false and now when I simply try and update a page, it just turns and turns and never ends up saving. My Dashboard is missing stuff and when I got to my site, I lost the WP bar at the top to edit the page or whatever. I tried to add the define( ‘ALTERNATE_WP_CRON’, true ); with no luck. I compared my wp-cron.php file and it seems correct as far as I can tell. I don’t know what the issue is here. It would be nice to fix this if someone could help me out.

Crawler needs 2 clicks, does not auto crawl

Hello,
The crawler works well for me, but seems to be very manual.
Despite frequency being set to every 10 mins, and all config left to the defaults, the crawler never seems to run automatically.
The site in question has fairly high traffic, about 50 hits per hour, so the wordpress cron should be able to be leveraged, if it uses scheduled actions?
Additionally, if I click Manually Run, at first it returns a success message indicating how many urls were found, in less than 1 second, then I have to click it again for it to actually crawl the site, in my case taking about 20-30 seconds.
Any thoughts?

I have quite big site with lots of content and Schema plugin generates quite big load on my CPU when it crawls site.

How can I run all Schema’s tasks from WP-cron in convenient time for my visitors?
