    0_0 …I can’t edit it…….. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss the old board ??

macmanx, the reason it went away is because the new list is located here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Themes#A_List_of_Downloadable_Themes

If we end up with two locations, just make a noise and I’ll update this post so it mirrors the Codex page as closely as possible.

Tparlin, I realize that page is up in the codex, but it’s not nearly as complete as this. And, lately, the Codex mods have been getting aggressive, so I’d rather not waste my time posting this over there as it would probably be gone in less than five minutes.

I think the term ‘aggressive’ is a bit strong.

For Codex to be the success we need and want it to be, the structure has to be well controlled. Pages need to be coherent and connected. Although being freely editable is a boon, it is also a potential problem.

There are a few Codex editors who have, for want of a better term, a solid view of the ‘big picture’ and pages are being moved and consolidated in order that this goal be achieved.
While creating a page is good, I recognise that then having that work moved, changed, altered can be disconcerting – as a creator of many pages there, I know this, but it is for the good of Codex that this is done, not because of some egotistical want.

And as I said, I will mirror changes in the above post, and I will also link it to the Codex page.

Completely deleting about an hour of work on the plugins page is more like it…. ok, I’ll stop ranting now. I’ll just stick with the little/minor codex edits and additions.

At the risk of sounding like a troublemaker, and the certainty of a topic shift: if your “vision” of the Codex isn’t in keeping with the philosophy of a wiki, in which structure emerges from open expression, why are you using wiki software for it? And why are you granting mere mortals access to tamper with it at all?

iJames – go over to the wikipedia and start adding stuff all over the place. Once you’ve done there, head over to the mediawiki site and do the same. Please, do…

The original WP blog suffered because it ended up being TOO freeform. What is going on now is an attempt to build something constructively – users can provide the bricks, but it’s not too much to ask that someone oversee just quite how they be laid is it ?

I look forward to your contributions.

I do contribute to Wikipedia. (Albeit not under this pseudonym.)

As for the Codex, I’d like to contribute, but when I tried to create an account last week I got “You have not specified a valid username.” I just tried it again now and it still doesn’t work.

The username I’m trying to create is “iJames”. I’ve tried others and get the same error. Fix this bug or give me a workaround, and I promise you I’ll add at least three tips to the Codex within 24 hours, including my ascending archives list and some useful stuff about Stattraq.

    Cool !

From previous posts, the username must start with a capital, so IJames may be worth a go ?

Hey, what do you know, that worked. (I strongly advise documenting that in the ‘create account’ special page, BTW. No telling how many other people may have been turned away by this.) Anyway, as promised, I’ll drop some stuff in there tonight.

Back to the original subject: Podz or Macmanx, has that list been put in the old WordPress wiki? If not, it could be a good idea, since the Codex still isn’t linked from the main WordPress pages but the Wiki is. I could add it too, but it makes sense that you should get the credit.
