This site is pretty much brand new and sitting with the latest versions of just about everything except for this plugin. When attempting to update the entire site became unavailable, crashed! That’s front-end & back-end! It took deleting the plugin for the site to become accessible. Whatever is suppose to have been fixed in this version isn’t fixed! There’s nothing wrong with my site either. So I’m going to hold at 0.9.55 until maybe the next update.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • That is a pretty big jump – how about you give some details of http headers – are you getting 500 errors and if so where. First of all if you have the AMP Automattic plugin installed then you can deactivate and delete it. It is no longer needed. The recent update of that plugin broke so many things and it can’t be leveled at the door of AMP for WP. They have worked tirelessly for several days now to fix the incompatibility. With good reason, they have cut that dependency and now everything rolls into a single plugin.

I’ve since removed the AMP Automattic plugin, installed & activated AMP for WP with no errors. The only thing I notice now is that on mobile devices the page I have listed for the Home Page doesn’t appear. So I have my /blog page set as the Front Page when viewing on a smartphone I get the /amp page which displays my ads but it doesn’t display any of the blog posts. On a Windows tablet I continue to get the default Home page and not the /amp page.
Any reasons why I’m not being re-directed?

I’ll open another topic if needed.

Try this as a step in right direction because your ask is basically a learning curve which will take a while to figure out – well what you actually want to do.

You need to go to the home page option in the plugin admin section. Turn it on. Then set the page to be your static home page in the dropdown. Now go to the editor for your static home page – go to the amp content box in the bottom half of the edit page. Tick it to say it should be used and enter some text as a test. Make sure in the sidebar that the home page is set to show. Now if it doesn’t show, it is a good idea to go to settings and re-save your permalinks. Clear any caches you may be using. See if that gets you going in the right direction.

I’m not sure why a “learning curve” is needed if the goal is simply to display the latest blog posts on mobile devices. This should be the defacto standard for AMP. In trying your suggestion I go to the Home page, enable and enter some text in the AMP box and see the text when viewing it on a smart phone but not the tablet. This still doesn’t explain why I can’t use the existing blog page. If anything it implies that I’ll need to create a new page using a page builder and use a shortcode or widget to display that page inside of the AMP box.

Please tell me if I’m wrong.

Learning curve as in this plugin has great flexibility and quite a few options to match what it is you are trying to achieve. There are also template files which can be customized. I have 8 sites using this plugin and it takes a while to get to know how to configure it to do what you want in different situations.

I see your static amp home page is working if I go directly to the url. I also see https://yourdomain.com/blog/amp/ is working perfectly for me. The canonical url is correct and so is the amphtml.

There is no reason why you can’t see an AMP page on a tablet to my knowledge if you are putting an amp url into it. If you are however trying to do mobile redirection to tablets, it is a different matter and further analysis is required. I presume you have cleared caches, re-saved permalinks etc.

    Hi @marvc,

If you just want to show the list of posts, say your recent posts like the blog then simply turn off the Custom frontpage option. Just enable the Homepage option.

I am sure it will work the way you want.

Let me know if that’s what you need or not.

@frenchomatic thank you so much for your words and support.

@marqas – That did it! thanks
@frenchomatic – I get what you’re saying now as I see that I’ll need to put more effort into using the Page Builder option thus using the plugin to its full extent.

    Thanks for the help!

No problem. You can mirror your non-amp site fairly easily but you will need to do a few things: For example create AMP menus. Also create a static home page just for AMP and then set that as the front page in the admin options. The way I do it is to take the exisiting home page and then put my AMP content in the box provided. I make a simple page with a few images on it.
