Would you mind trying the current dev version and letting me know if it solves the time-out issue? I made some changes to that method in order to exit as soon as the maximum number of images is reached.

The dev version is available here: https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/nextgen-facebook.zip

    Thanks,

    js.

Seems to work as planned now jsmoriss, thanks!

I also had the problem and it was fixed with the reset code for wp-config.php and installation of the dev version. However I’m either missing something in my NextGen settings (entirely possible) or something else is wrong, because links I post from my website to FB are not displaying an *image* if there is not one embedded directly on the page already. I.e. for a page on my site that’s just text, or just a video file, the plugin is not displaying my set “default” image to FB. If that makes sense….

Is there a link somewhere to the version of NextGen before it was updated? All this trouble started for me when I updated everything in my plugins page today. Was working fine up til then. Don’t have much time to work with troubleshooting this… Thanks.

    ellendi,

Sounds like your default image isn’t set. If you turn on debug mode and give me the URL to a page with just text, I’ll have a look at the page source and see if I can spot the problem.

As for rolling back, it would be hard to tell you which version to go back to without knowing what you need… Maybe 1.7.2? Though, personally, I’d stick with the current version.

    Hi JS,

Thanks for your response. I changed the debug to true in the wp-config.php – gathering this is what you meant by changing to debug mode (I’m not a developer, I’m a visual artist who knows enough about dev that I built a custom site on WordPress, but I don’t know much more).

So, what seems to have worked is that A) I found the pre-update NextGen version I had in an archive I’d saved of my entire site directory. I’m running 1.7.1. B) I did finally get it to work, though not perfectly, by just deleting the page and creating a brand new page for the content. I did have a default image set, I tried it both with and without a default image. The Facebook debugger was giving me errors about having both a default image set *and* having the meta tag of og:image checked. So I had to remove the default image in order to get Facebook to scrape my profile. And even with it set and “og”image” unchecked on the original page, it was still not displaying an image when posted on FB. Until I just deleted the page and created a new one.

So now it is working for my immediate purpose, but is still not displaying a text excerpt from my actual content – it’s just displaying the text that is my general website description. This is ok for this particular page, but for a blog post I’d want it to display the text excerpt of the post itself.

This is the new page currently working only with the wrong text excerpt: https://ellendicola.com/Works/true-faith-2/

Here is a page just with video and no jpg image that is only displaying text (as I said no default image is set but this is because I was getting a ton of errors in FB when it was): https://ellendicola.com/Works/arborealis/

I can go ahead and reset the default image but aside from that there was something else going on, since I tried this many times to no avail yesterday.

    Thanks!

    Ellen,

The following is a sticky thread on the support page to explain the debug mode stuff:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/please-read-before-posting-2?replies=1

You seem to have turned on WP’s debug mode, without also configuring the output to a file, so by default WP is sending debug output to the screen. This is probably not what you want.

Which version are you running now? There have been many improvements in the code, so I would suggest using the current v3.5 version. The WP debug output I see makes me believe you are using an older version (for several versions now, the debug output for NGFB has been clean).

    Thanks,

    js.
