    Hi,

A client wants to update their blog. Is updating from 1.9.8.9 to 4.6.4 even possible or are the two versions just structurally different?

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hi @twowithink ,

Both of these versions are structurally different.

We recommend taking a backup of your website before the upgrade. Also, take a backup of your customizer settings using the Customizer Export/Import plugin.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Sorry I couldn’t reply earlier, but as a regular user of Responsive on a few of my sites the general advice I have is take your backup then create a new test site for the up-date.

You will find TREMENDOUS changes are needed to bring it all up-to-date and these are best done in a separate test site while you get used to it all and create a new or refined set of any customisations.

Once you’re happy with the new style of the site you can update the working site and port your customisations over for a quick and easy upgrade.

It’s worth having a rollback plugin on your site so if it sill all goes wrong you can revert to the original site in a flash.
