I’ve just had Wordfence report 101 unknown files. Examples are –

Unknown file in WordPress core: wp-includes/rest-api/endpoints/class-wp-rest-block-pattern-categories-controller.php
    Type: File

Unknown file in WordPress core: wp-includes/js/dist/development/react-refresh-entry.min.js
    Type: File

This seems very strange, I updated to WordPress 6 earlier today, but found it broke my site, so I reverted to a backup from 2 days ago. I can’t help thinking it’s related – but if so how??

Solved. Presumably many extra, or different files were added in the latest WordPress update, which are left in place with a normal restore. This resulted in a mix of files from WordPress 6 that were no longer needed when I restored back to a previous version.

I solved the issue by manually deleting all of the files in WordPress using FTP before doing another restore. This time there were no unknown files found by Wordfence.
