• I’ve started out with the default category set in WordPress, and when I try to add a posting to another category I’ve created, it gives me an error that says “Something strange happened. Try refreshing the page.”. I’ve read a few messages on this forum related to that error, but I can’t find the solution to the problem. I’ve tried reinitializing the database and reinstalling the software, but it still isn’t working. It’s strange because I have another few blogs that are running WordPress and don’t have this problem.

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know a fix for this?

I did notice that the login screen has changed since I last installed the software. I don’t know if this was a complete version change or just a design update.

So, why don’t you look at the bottom of your admin panel to see what version are you using.
    If 2.1 – it’s a complete change… just look around in the forum ??

    It is version 2.1.

Look around on the main page of the forum and see how many times 2.1 is mentioned… you’ll have an idea what’s going on.

Although I haven’t seen yet your error reported.

Most of these problems seem plugin or theme related…i.e. they are not compatible yet with 2.1.

It is using the default theme and plugin set. This is a brand new installation. I just rolled back to the old version, and it works perfectly. What’s wrong?

One more report of this “funny” message:

As I said over there: now we just have to figure out what you have in common with the other poster…

I have just encountered the same message. I use version 2.1. I noticed that the blogroll categories are now not limited just to the blogroll categories i had made–but also includes the categories of a post i had made. i have since deleted the post and all categories associated with it. yet, i still receive the message.

I have just put in a new installation of 2.1 – I am unable to add any Category. The button doesn’t even press… it isn’t a question of getting an error message – it just doesn’t work.

    Any new thoughts on this?

OK. the plugin Category Overload fixes this.

I’m getting the same problem. I’m using WP 2.2.2. I deactivated all the plugins, and the error went away but I’m now getting the “you don’t have permission to do this” error when I try to change the post category. I think it’s the Ajax Referer Fix plugin that is causing the problem. When I enable just that plugin, the “Something strange happened” error comes back. Without that Ajax referer fix the admin panel is almost useless… so I guess I’ll stick to just one category for now. I’m also using the Pure theme if that matters..
