• Hi
    It seems 1&1 uk suffered pretty badly from the brute force attacks but WP security on my various sites prevented any issues. Anyway, since this all started about 10 days ago one site is still dragging its heels to the point that it’s taking 10 seconds to access any pages or the dashboard etc. 1&1 say there is no server load issue and this has been going back and forth for a while. This is their last response which doesn’t make much sense to me, could anyone tell me if this is BS?:

    The domain cited wtihin the notes is nicholaspealldesign.com. When I pull this via wget it works just fine but resolves an error as there is no index detected it seems?

    wget nicholaspealldesign.com
    –14:56:34– https://nicholaspealldesign.com/
    => `index.html.74′
    Resolving nicholaspealldesign.com… 82.165.22.210, 2001:8d8:1000:d42b:b075:f215:9162:4010
    Connecting to nicholaspealldesign.com|82.165.22.210|:80… connected.
    HTTP request sent, awaiting response… 403 Forbidden
    14:56:34 ERROR 403: Forbidden.

    Does anyone know what this might be when the support guy is saying there is no index?:

    Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks for posting. There is an index.php and the installation is identical to a number of others I have (i.e. same host, on 3.5.1 using Pagelines) and they are all fine.

    It’s just the comment didn’t make a whole lot of sense and seemed like a simple brush-off

    I agree. My gut instinct is that this is something leftover from 1&1’s security measures during the recent attacks. I think you;re just going to have to contact them again. If you still get no joy, ask for the issue to be escalated to Level/Tier 2 support. That’s where you’ll get to talk to people who really know their way around as opposed to just following a support script.

    Good luck. ??

    That response was from a level 2 support person – I’ll monitor it over the next few days. Things have a habit of being sorted out with them when you post a message on their Facebook page.

    Oh dear. ?? Perhaps they need reminding that WordPress uses index.php – not index.html?
