• Hello,

I have just installed sidebar widgets however I am getting the following error.

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare register_sidebars() (previously declared in /home/notright/public_html/wp-includes/widgets.php:15) in /home/notright/public_html/wp-content/plugins/widgets.php on line 22

I am a newbie and I could not find an answer to my question in the forums. I am sure it has been asked before

I am using wordpress 2.2 and sidebar widgets 1.2.1.20070210b

    Any help would be appreciated

edit. I should mention I am using the default theme. I have only changed the header image(same size) and the background image (color)

  • Delete all the files related to the sidebar widget–you don’t need it as 2.2 has widget capability already built-in.

I’m having the same problem. I went in and deleted everything in the plugins folder that looked like it might be related to sidebars, but I’m still getting the same error. What should be in that folder? Anything?

    Thanks!

Followup: Never mind. I found the file you were referring to and now it’s working. Thanks!

I tried deleting all files related to the widget, and now when I go to customize my widgets, I get this error:

    Cannot load widgets.php.

    Please advise!

    Thank you!

Delete the widgets PLUGIN file. The widgets.php in wp-includes and wp-admin and such should stay there. If you deleted them, re-download wordpress 2.2 and put them back.

Sorry guys , I m a newbie n having the same problem too.
Now exactly which file I must delete ?
    widgets.php or ? thanks

I’ve also encountered that ‘fatal error’, and this worked for me:

    1. Delete widgets.php from your plugins folder.
    2. Upload and activate disable-wordpress-widgets.php.
    3. Deactivate disable-wordpress-widgets.php.
    4. The widgets are back!

I’ve done another step before these: I deactivated all my plugins – but I’m not so sure I had to do that.
