• Hello, I am a novice, first-time blogger. I tried searching other posts for an answer but could not understand most of what I found. After a few hours I managed to upload the directory files to my website’s server and set up the database. I successfuly installed WordPress 2.3 on my server. I got my random password and initial username. When I typed the information into the ‘/wp_login.php’ page, and clicked “log in,” my browser (I.Explorer) said it could not log me in because the page was restricted. I tried closing the window, re-opening, and re-entering the info, this time I clicked “remember me” to try and save the password in my cookies, but it still didn’t work. I enabled cookies, tried again, and it still didn’t go through. Somebody PLEASE help me I’m completely lost and amazed that I got this far. My OS is Windows Vista, and I do not know how to disable the firewall.

one more detail, I originally tried to install with “localhost” as my server’s host name but it did not work. Since I was pretty sure everything else had been correct, I changed it to an address that begins with “mysql3.” WordPress then said it was installed correctly. Could this possibly be part of the problem?

also, I thought perhaps the random password generator had changed my password after a couple attempts, so I opted to have it e-mailed to me, only it didn’t work. Some message from WordPress saying that my webmail did not allow the message to be sent.
