userx, remove the is_single() and your own comment template should work

delet the is_single()
it should look like:
<?php comments_template(); // Get wp-comments.php template ?>

Macmanx, have you tried disabling customized permalinks?

Yes, I deleted the is-single and my own theme’s comments.php is being called … for the first time ever. Thanks Minna and Moshu. I also added <?php comment_type(__(‘Comment’), __(‘Trackback’), __(‘Pingback’)); ?> to my comments.php. Don’t know if that’ll help fix my track and pings, but I’m trying everything at this point.

I also did disable customizing permalinks …but it broke all my pages and links to posts. I enabled it again.

UPDATE: Conscious Junkyard just sent me a trackback … how’d that happen???

I sent one … it hasn’t shown up yet. Earlier I sent two trackbacks to Podz tester site. An hour or two ago I couldn’t send one to Podz tester site. Now, however, it does appear that I can recieve trackbacks – when I was able to send them, I couldn’t recieve them. Now, it appears to be reveresed. ???

..unless, of course, Conscious Junkyard suddenly can;’t recieve a trackback. How do we know???

I received it, as well as well as one sent from Podz’s test site. Both went into moderation due to user configuration, and I had to approve them for them to appear.

O.k. You and I can send and receive trackbacks between each other. That’s great. I wonder if it limited? If mac’s experience holds true, it may be.

I do know now that I can receive and send trackbacks …

Userx, I have now changed my permalink structure to /%postname%/%category%/. Without changing anything on your site, can you still send me another trackback? (send another one, please!)

I think it has to be done from another post that hasn’t pinged that address already.

Its not on your site yet. Is it in moderation? If not, my site doesn’t send trackbacks with customized URLs. Or, I suppose, your site doesn’t receive them from me if they’re from a customized URL.

It’s not in moderation. This is interesting, and it explains – I think – why there is such a varied success/fail rate between sites.
