• I installed the plugin the same day it was released, and I began to suspect the following days that it was not working properly because it was indexing all the attachments again. My suspicions were true, when I uninstalled the plugin I received thousands of 404 errors in my search console for those attachments that supposedly were being purged from the index. I’ve also noticed that looking at Google (site: mysite.com inurl: attachment_id) empty pages appear that previously did not appear and correspond to those attachments wrongly indexed.

    My solution?
    1) Copy the attachment URLs from the sitemaps and paste it them in a .txt file
    2) Unintall the plugin
    3) Block the attachment-id using robots.txt
    4) Every day take 1000 url and delete them from the Google Search console.

With this method is possible to delete 1000 attachment in a day, so I think is more effective and faster.

Everything I have said is based on my personal experience, the plugin may work for other users, but in my case it has not been that way. Even so I appreciate the attempt to create the plugin to solve the problem with Panda that many have suffered.

Hi phineas137, thanks for the comprehensive review but for reviews can you leave out links and images? Just keep it to text. I’ve removed the image and link to that image.

The reason for that is, like most things, bad people have horribly abused that in the past. Yes, they ruin things for good people and that sucks.

    Yes, no problem Jan.

Thank you for your understanding. ??

    Hi phineas137

What do you mean by “Block the attachment-id using robots.txt” ?

    Thanks!

    Hi!
You need to open the robots.txt file in your server and write the following terms:

    Disallow: *attachment_id*

With it Google won’t crawl the URLs that contains this words, for example:

    https://www.mysite.com//?attachment_id=22151
    https://www.mysite.com//?attachment_id=23453
    https://www.mysite.com//?attachment_id=22452
    […]

Thanks phineas137 for your kind explanation.

    One more question.
You wrote “Every day take 1000 url and delete them from the Google Search console”

I looked in “Google Search console” and only saw an option to “temp hide” one url manually. I don’t believe you meant someone should enter those url’s one by one manually.

    Do I miss something?

It’s neccesary to install a Chrome complement: “Bulk URL Removal”

    Hi phineas137

    Thanks for your great advice.

    I was wondering:
Why do you need to play with robots.txt?
After all, in the original Yoest plugin, you can move the settings of ‘Media->Attachment’ back to Yes and then all those pages no longer exists.

Yoast plugin not index attachment pages, so there’s no reason to crawl this pages, it spend crawl budget and I prefer to crawl other pages that will be indexed. It’s a kind to optimizing the crawl budget.

I got 11200 errors from making that mistake updating yoast from older version to new version and now i hove that many error in google sconsole example.com/example/example/ most of my olders posts image have this links example.com/example/example/ and keeps groing since i have 24k of posts Is there and way to fix this cause i see that i dont get any answer if i dont buy the plugin …
