• New to WordPress. We have a 1and1 Microsoft Developer Package where we are trying to set up a wordpress site as a subdomain (https://compass.stjosephcountymi.org/) from our main site for the purposes of an employee/staff website.

I installed the site via FTP and manually created the wp-config.php. When I attempt to add a theme or plugin I get the error “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.ads-software.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

I was able to manually add the twentytwelve theme from zip file.

Also, on the Dashboard home, WordPress News has these two errors, which seem like they may be related:

“RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: There are no HTTP transports available which can complete the requested request.”

    and

“RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: 10060: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.”

  • I’m having the same errors. I’m also using the Microsoft Developer Package on 1and1. With debugging on, it shows me warnings on many pages but nothing on these errors. I setup the debug logging in the config file but nothing is being written to it.

It seems wordpress just does not work with the Microsoft Developer package even though you can actually get it installed. I ended up just punting and adding on the basic WordPress package from 1and1 (which I think is pretty much the same as their Linux package but WordPress is already installed and they update it for you automatically), which is only about $8 a month for the 6 months.

If you just got the package for a WordPress site I believe you can contact 1and1 and they can convert it over to another package for you. But if you are trying to add WordPress onto an established site you’ll probably need to add the new package onto your account.
