Not sure if this is the right place. Anyone here hosting a wordpress site at 1and1? I’m currently hosting my site at 1and1 and not sure if I should be happy with it.

I’m currently using their managed wordpress website plan and the FTP is currently unwriteable/uneditable. I need to edit htaccess and delete folders but it wont allow me.

I contacted them and they told me I can change to Standard installation. I checked the page but it says that if I change that I cannot revert back. I’m afraid I will break the website. Anyone here using their standard installation? or any experience with 1and1?

I also don’t like they force me to call them but I live in another country so timezones are totally different and it will cost me a truckload of money to call abroad.

  • Hello papigiulio,

I understand your concern, the best way to be safe here is to take a complete backup of Source code & Database.

It depends on Hosting and varies from provider to provider. Ideally changing the plan doesn’t break anything.

Further, as it doesn’t seem to be WordPress related issue, I would suggest you approach the 1&1 support forum and they will best assist you there.

    Thanks.

thanks for the quick reply. I already messed up. The site is broken. Installation error because I have no patience. As I said, contacting their support is really troublesome, takes one day or more to get a reply and they force me to call them. ??

Can you please share your site URL if you don’t mind?

We can check the errors and guide you for the solution.

    Thanks.

Thanks Kartiks16, I re-renamed folders that I shouldn’t have to begin with and now everything is working again.

Wish I could find other 1and1 users to see what they experience.

    anyway thanks.

    Happy to Help papigiulio!
