1and1 hosting UK

I’m trying to set up WP with a 1and1 UK hosting account, and keep getting the following error.


Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at db251.oneandone.co.uk. This could mean your host's database server is down.


I’ve checked my settings, and they are identical to those sugested in the 1and1 support pages, and to those listed on this site.

I’m a newbie at this, and gettign very frustrated. So far I’ve spent about 8 hours tweaking settings and getting nowhere.

Are settigns for 1and1 UK different to those listed here?

Ah, I ran into something similar ages ago. It might help for you to really really carefully stare at your dbname, dbusername, dbhost and dbpasswd. And I mean copy and paste from your mysql admin page if you can.

Especially dbname and dbusername. For me one was db[manydigitnumber] and the other was dbo[manydigitnumber]. I didn’t see it, and used db[manydigitnumber] for both. I spent waaaay too much time mucking around. Plus, and you might already know this, the dbpasswd is different from your standard 1and1 login password.

I had used my dbname for both.
