    Hi everyone,

I am writing a post (actually about World Press Freedom Day) and I want the permalink postname to say exactly that.

But it’s giving me world-press-freedom-day-2. I don’t want the 2. It turns out that I did a similar post this time last year.

I would have thought the date change would be enough so 2012/05/world… and 2011/05/world… would be allowed.

Am I really not going to be able to use the same postname ever again?

    Thanks.

The same post name (title), you can use over and over again. The same post slug? Nope. It has to be unique. ??

When WordPress puts together the post slug, it does so using the same rules/method as the original post with the same name. Since that slug already exists, it appends a number to the post slug.

Instead of letting WordPress choose, try putting world-press-freedom-day-2012 in the custom permalink field. It’s just underneath the post title when in the post editor.

Edit: Also try to pick a better topic title when you post here. I actually clicked on the thread just to see what “-2” was about.

Post slug, yes, that is what I meant. Thanks.

    That’s kinda annoying.

Yeah, I was probably going to go with the year thingy.

    Thanks Jan…
