Updated Sermon Manager last night and had the error about my php version, saw the 2.1.2 update this morning to fix that issue so loaded the update. Now all admin pages give a white screen with this error:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /……/wp-content/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress/includes/fix-dates.php on line 181

  • I am having the same problem…
Fatal error: Call to undefined function boolval() in /*****/*******/public_html/wp-content/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress/includes/fix-dates.php on line 44

Hey @lbcweb and @chubbs1900, what PHP version are you using?

It seems like that both of you using PHP less than 5.6. Can you upgrade to 5.6 and check again?

    Hello,
I am having this same error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function boolval() in /home/chris500/public_html/salemsayers.org/wp-content/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress/includes/fix-dates.php on line 44

I was able to upgrade my PHP to 5.6 and the issue is resolved.

My current environment is running php version 5.3.24 and is a shared environment so I can’t update it right now due to the potential affect to other sites. But I was able to roll back to 2.0.8 and will sit tight there until we roll into our permanent environment in a couple of weeks where I will be able to update. If I still have trouble at 5.6 then I’ll log a new thread. Thanks!!

Actually, can you test out 2.1.3?
We made some small changes that should allow you to use 5.3 while having the newest features.

But, there might be unexpected bugs, so, it would be the best to use 5.6.

    Thank you for understanding ??

    Hey @nikolam,

    I’m receiving the following message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function boolval() in /home2/nscwc/public_html/…org/wp-content/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress/includes/fix-dates.php on line 44

    Please help me.

Going into my hostgator control panel and switching to 5.6 worked!!! Thank you!

Hey there, this has been fixed in 2.1.5

Affected users can safely remove Sermon Manager directory via FTP (wp-content/plugins/sermon-manager-for-wordpress) and install the latest version from www.ads-software.com

    No data will be lost.

chubbs1900, can you share how to switch to 5.6 in the hostgator control panel?

    Hey @vanceb,

Just our 2 cents regarding your question. There is usually an app in cPanel that is called “PHP Config” where you should be able to simply select the desired PHP version.

Not all hosts have this for some reason, if yours doesn’t, you should then just send them an email and request your PHP version be change to 5.6.

We’re super surprised how many hosts still don’t use 5.6 and up. That’s actually really bad. You can see here that even 5.6 has had its development stopped https://php.net/supported-versions.php, anything less than 5.6 is not good for a myriad of reasons.

Anyway, if your host can’t get you onto 5.6 then (to be perfectly honest) you should switch your host. We recommend SiteGround, its brilliant.
