Have been using Search Exclude for around half a year on a website we’re still building. Suddenly today (after not using the site for a few days due to the holiday), we found we were constantly getting the WordPress “There has been a critical error on this website” all across the site.

After spending the day trying various things and plugin combinations, it seemed to be Search Exclude 2.3.0 that specifically caused the issue. Once it was disabled, everything is working fine again.

Here’s what I think I’ve figured out: the problem comes in when using Search Exclude AND a plugin that makes the site private in some way. I initially thought it was the plugin My Private Site, so I removed that and switched to Content Control, which was then working fine. Once I activated my base selection of plugins again, the problem returned.

Trying it right now, if I have both Content Control and Search Exclude running, the problem exists. If I deactivate either those, things are fine again. So, that kind of situation seems to be where the issue comes about. Neither Content Control nor My Private Site were updated this week, so I have to assume it’s something that came in 2.3.0 that’s causing the conflict.

If there’s any other information I can give that might help, let me know.
