    I think i have worked it out i have added :
    tag=”div”
    see below
    all working now hope this was the fix
    [expand title=”Monkeys” rel=”animal-highlander” tag=”div”]Target Content[/expand]

    that is correct. the twentyfourteen theme adds :before and :after css to the span elements that wonks up the expand for spans. your fix works, or you can also simply set the default tag to div in the plugin options page.

    Thanks for posting this solution. I was having the same issue with the Twenty Fourteen theme. Setting the Tag Option to div in the plugin’s options page fixed the problem!
